  1. I'm looking to upgrade the engine on my 2014 Fusion SE (currently have the 1.5L stock) and have been trying to find a suitable replacement with far better performance. As I've looked around, the 3.0L Twin Turbo Ecoboost engines in the Lincoln MKZs look like a very appealing option, especially considering the price compared to other options. Would one of these fit in my car? If so, would it massively decrease my gas mileage or would it still be manageable? If not, what are some alternatives? I'd preferably like a quieter option that still has great performance, as I'm looking to mod my car into the perfect sleeper build and I feel the volume of an engine like the 5.0 Mustang engine that went viral a while ago would ruin the subtlety I'm striving to achieve. I'm just beginning to get into car modification, so if there's a smaller change I need or should do first that'd also be great to know.
  2. I just finished swapping my 2.3l '09 Fusion engine for a 2.5l '10 Fusion engine. First off let me say that I am not a mechanic..... This was my first ever engine swap I did this in my driveway... I also highly recommend that you do not try this and instead use the engine designed for your car. This requires custom machined components to do the job right. I got the idea for this swap from the Mazda guys and after looking at the cost and availability of both engines it just seemed to make sense. The 2.5l engine with >15000 miles was $500 from a junkyard. The 2.3l >45000 miles was 800+. I have also heard that the 2.5l engine was far more durable..... not sure how true that is. I guess it depends on who you ask. Most of the directions I followed were from http://www.happywrenching.com/mazda/6/mazda-6-and-ford-fusion-23l-engine-swap.html This will get you most of the way and there are plenty of resources online for the rest. Also note that even in the 2009 fusion you do not need to crack the AC lines..... It took me 2 hours to remove the bolt from the power steering pump and the AC compressor but it can be done. Here are the major notes form this swap: You must use the valve cover and coils from the 2.3l engine...... unless you want to redo the wiring harness. But you will need to CAREFULLY swap out the VVT solenoid seal. The VVT solenoid's are different sizes. You will also need the connector for the VVT solenoid from the 2.5l engine..... You will need to cut and splice it in to the 2.3l harness. Also the temp sensor is keyed differently on both engines so either swap the sensors or the connector. Just swap the pins... no need to cut and splice. You must use the fly wheel from the 2.3l engine.... The bolt pattern for the torque converter is slightly different. You can use the crankshaft pulley from either engine but if you use the 2.5l than you will need a 90" belt. You also must and cannot use the intake manifold from the 2.3l engine.... Let me explain. The 2.5l engine has larger intake ports than the 2.3l engine but the 2.5l intake manifold is missing sensors required for the '09 fusion. When you bolt up the 2.3l manifold to the 2.5l engine you can see were the seals are not making contact. To solve this you either need to machine a restriction plate (the right way) or glop a bunch of gasket material over it (the wrong way but it works so far)...... You may also be able to use a tuner to disable the engine checks for these sensors but I have no idea how to do that or if it is really possible so...That's really it. Now the car runs great expect that it stalls with the Max AC and Max Fan on at idle... Not sure why I think I need to go through the learning again. Good luck if you try this... Your on you're own. I do not recommend it.
  3. I have a 2006 Fusion that has a crunched rear. I have found a 2007 fusion that is missing front fenders, etc. The 2006 has the 3.0 and the 2007 has the 2.3 with AT. I am contemplating how to make one car out of the two. I would like to move the 3.0, transmission and all from the '06 to the '07. Is it possible to do this by unbolting the entire subframe and moving it from one car to the other? If that is possible, how much of a wiring mess am I going to have?
  4. Looking for a 2006 - 2009 fusion engine my car is a 2004 Mazda 6 3.0 my if anyone has a low miles engine for sale lemme know. I live in Bryson City NC. I can pick up if close enough if not we can discuss shipping. Price range 600 pick up low miles. Im willing to do the work myself. But if I can get it and have it installed at a good price that would be cool. Thanks
