  1. Hello all! I have a 2006 SE 3.0 L V6... My issues started with an odd sputter while in park. Things got worse on the way home and the check engine light came on (wouldn't go above 40, shaking, etc...). The codes read multiple misfires on 4,5,6. We were told it was probably the PCM (apparently this model is notorious for PCM issues) so we took it to a shop and after 3 months of them working on it we called and they told us there was nothing wrong with the PCM and we should come pick it up, Also, the coils were not wet or dirty and seemed to have no cracking when we checked them. After putting the PCM back on, we started it to see if anything might have changed. At this point the check engine light was no longer on but the problems were still there. We also noticed that there was a loud knocking in the left side of the intake manifold. It sounded like something was loose. We removed the intake manifold and you could hear something rattle around that my husband could barely feel with his finger. The gaskets seemed in great condition. So......... I am having problems finding any information about that specific intake manifold and/or schematics for it (to try and figure out what was rattling). We are just trying to figure things out and would appreciate any and all info to help with any of the issues. My husband says I need more help than that LOL. We are just ready to pull our hair out and if money wasn't an issues, we would just bring it to the shop. THANKS!!!!
  2. My 2014 Fusion 1.6 has used a small amount of coolant since I first got her. A few weeks ago I got a CEL for P303 cylinder 3 misfire. Replaced the plugs, it came back, swapped the coils, and it continued. The other morning on startup the car idled very rough and eventually stalled. After starting it back up there was no smoke, but I could smell a strong coolant smell. So it went to the local dealer who I have been dealing with and buying all my family's cars since 1999. The dealer pressure tested the coolant system and found a leak in cylinder 3, (there is the misfire and coolant smell), and a slight leak at the water pump. (That could be unrelated, and maybe why the car was loosing coolant in the first place.) My service tech, is now working with ford to see what can be done since this is a known issue on the 1.6L Ecoboost, in the Escape, Fusion, Focus, and Fiesta ST. Just figured I would mention this here for anyone else having similar issues, and I will update as we find out whats going on.
  3. 2017 MKZ/Continental/Fusion – 3.0L/2.7L – Rough Idle – Misfire DTCs – White Or Blue Smoke And/Or Excessive Oil Consumption – Built On Or Before 6-Oct-2016 Some 2017 MKZ/Continental/Fusion vehicles equipped with the 2.7L/3.0L engine and built on or before 6-Oct-2016 may exhibit a rough idle in neutral or park at normal operating temperature or after a hot restart, white or blue smoke from the exhaust, excessive oil consumption and/or an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306 and/or P0316. Suspect the cylinder heads as the cause for this issue. If the vehicle also exhibits P0524 and/or P06DD suspect the long block as the cause for this issue.
  4. Having a persistant P0301 code - misfire cylinder 1. Can feel the engine sometimes run rough - at idle or on the highway. Dealer said to replace all plugs and cylinder 1 coil pack. Did it myself - still got the code. Checked Compression and it was 175 on cylinder 1. Others were similar. I checked the fuel pressure. It is good at 58 psi. Usually steady. Once saw it rapidly fluctuate from 52 - 60 but didn't seem to run differently. (side note - used a Harbor Frieght pressure kit. Left it hooked up for about a 45 mile round trip so I could stop and check the pressure periodically (at idle in drive, with parking brake and block under front wheel) if I felt it running rough. Always was steady at 58 psi. At the end of the trip noticed gas smell. The test hose had torn and was leaking. Would not recommend buying Harbor Freight junk again.- not safe. Any suggestions on what else to try. I'm way overdue on emissions testing. Thanks Ed Attached are my code diagnostics from 2 instances of the freeze-frame data for the codes. Once at highway speed and once at idle. P0301 code 1st capture.pdf P0301 code 2nd capture.pdf
  5. Here's the deal: Last Friday, I took my '06 Fusion in to the Ford dealership to have spark plugs changed and transmission fluid changed ($500 total) (I'm at 92k miles). I got home after the service, only to check my transmission fluid to find that it was nearly dry. So the next day I took it back and demanded they fix the problem and they did. Yesterday, 5 days after the service, I had to quickly go home from work and get something. I got back in the car to leave the house, started to back out of the driveway and noticed the engine was bogging, RPMs would drop and the engine would be rough. I had no choice but to continue back to work. Today, Thursday, the problem continues, but it's mostly when the engine is strained- accelerating and/or going uphill. Under hard acceleration, power cuts in and out the worst. On my way to dinner tonight, after passing someone, I got the smell of catalytic converter, the CEL started flashing (hadn't been on before that point), and the engine felt very rough. I let off the gas, the light stopped flashing (and completely went off) and the engine felt fine after that. My question: it almost seems like an issue in the fuel system, but could spark plugs also be a possibility? I mean, if the dealership didn't put transmission fluid back in my car, I certainly don't trust the job they did on anything else. The CEL doesn't stay on, but I'm going to go to AutoZone tomorrow and see if they can retrieve a stored code. I'm not made of money (AKA: I'm broke) and bills are due soon, so I hope it isn't something expensive like a fuel pump (yes- that's expensive for me). Any pointers? Thanks in advance.
