  1. I've now been driving my 2011 SE for two weeks plus, logging about 600 miles in that time. So far I have to say I am very pleased with my purchase. This is not only my first Fusion, but my first Ford of the modern era. This replaced my '06 Chevy Impala, which not only needed several mechanical issues resolved, but also succumbed to the salty hell that is upstate NY. Thus far, it has met all of my expectations. I find the 2.5 paired with the 6 speed automatic has enough oomph for my needs and seems quite efficient, returning 25 mpg in mixed driving and during a highway run today getting 32+. The ride is comfortable on most surfaces, yet still retains a sporty feeling when hitting the twisty bits on the backroads. The seats are quite comfy, but supportive and bolstered well, and there is plenty of room for my 6'1" self and my 6'2" son. Plus, it's just a damn nice looking car!? I have had only one hiccup thus far. About 1 week in, i got the power assist failure message on the way back from the store. There was increased effort, bit it was not overly tough to steer. The next time I drove it everything was normal, and I've not had it pop up again and I can't notice anything odd with the steering. Is this something to be concerned about, or was this possibly a fluke? Hopefully this isn't something too serious, because otherwise this is a truly wonderful automobile which I look forward to many more miles in. Cheers, Aaron
  2. 2013 Ford Fusion SE, 109605 miles, 5/8/2020 I've been having an intermittent issue with my backup assist and power steering for the last three weeks. Approximately 95% of the time it's just fine. My power steering doesn't go out completely it just gets a little harder to turn. These two issues always happen together. As of today the power steering acted up, a warning light for the backup assist, the airbag, advance track, tire monitoring, and the controlls on or around my steering wheel (i.e. stereo, cruise, wiper and blinker) were not working. Today's occurrence happened when I went to lunch at work. I arrived to work at 9:24 am and left work at 1:03 pm for lunch, I drove about a mile. Arrived to the store at 1:07 pm started my car at 1:24 pm and that's when the issue began I got back to work at 1:30 pm and parked the car. When I parked, the airbag light turned off but the rest stayed. When I left work at 6:45 pm the issues seemed to be gone again. Lastly I have no codes nor a check engine light. I do know the BCM has been replaced and I have an aftermarket plug and play remote start installed under the dash behind the OBDII port, and a brand new battery about a week old. If I notice anything else I will add it to this. The first time this happened it was a similar scenario. Went to lunch at work, got to the store no issues, issues began when I left the store. This was only the backup assist and the power steering. Then Two days later I got up for work and when I started up the car the first time that day I had the issue with the steering and backup assist. PLEASE HELP!!! (F.Y.I. these times are exact, I have a vehicle tracking system that tells me everything)
  3. In the process of diagnosing a failed steering system on my 2014 FFH SE. I read around that the 12V battery is fairly critical to running all the electronic systems and at quick glance there was a reading of 10.x volts in FORScan somewhere. My question is that if the 12V battery was an issue with contributing yo the FSCM failure, wouldnt there be other modules failing also? Just a general question as I dive in the deep end to try and diagnose this issue myself before having a dealer dip into my wallet. Thanks
  4. My 2013 Ford fusion had power steering issue. My power steering light came on and I drove about 100 miles, turned the car off and now I have no power steering. I'm on vacation a few states away from my house. Please help if you have any info Thanks.
  5. My 2015 Fusion Energi Titanium had been sitting unused in our garage for a little over 3 weeks. My son took it out for its first drive in awhile to go see a friend (about 4 miles away). Car starts and drives without issue. A few hours later it starts and displays the following errors (as seen here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/jFtYPtJRxwC23BHB8? Steering Assist Fault — Service Required Hill Start Assist Not Available Service AdvanceTrac Pre-Collision Assist Not Available I know that methods for clearing codes has been discussed for these errors are easy enough to find online. I successfully disconnected the battery cables which removed the codes and was able to drive the car normally. I took the car to the local Ford dealership this morning and described situation. Since 4 errors appeared, service rep thought first place to start is battery. Test showed that battery was good, but that a recharge was recommended. Perhaps the battery was recharging during the 3 mile drive to the dealership and that is why it showed as "Good". This raises battery questions for me: Since the car had been sitting for 3 weeks, isn’t it more likely that the battery-causing-modules-to-create-errors scenario would have occurred when the car was started the first time (when my son left the house) as opposed to the second time it was started (4 hours later) when he was trying to come home? If the battery is the issue (even though it passed test?), isn’t it more likely that it would fail to start the car altogether? I assume this b/c it seems logical that turning on the engine/hybrid motor takes more power than powering the modules. So, now my question is “What do I do now?” My wife and teenage son frequently drive this car. I don’t want them to be in a scenario where the power steering goes out in traffic. I assume that if there is a power steering issue it will throw the error again. Can a problem with one module cause errors to display on 3 others? Dealer service said that only suggestion at this point is to do an overnight “drain test” to see if battery is losing power. My friend offered to do (what I assume is the same kind of test) a test for parasitic loss this weekend. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  6. Does the car's memory store DTC codes? Here's my issue. My "power steering assist fault" error trips multiple times throughout the day and I lose power steering. If I turn the car off and back on, then it usually goes away and my power steering returns. I have a feeling it has something to do with the Power Steering Control Module recall. I have taken it to the dealer twice now and they told me there weren't any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) present. They reprogram the Power Steering Control Module and send me on my way. If they had DTCs present, then they would have to replace the power steering gear assembly. I don't understand how there aren't any DTCs present if I am losing power steering and receiving the "power steering assist fault" error. I think the dealer is just clearing the codes and reprogramming the module. How would I be able to prove there is a trouble code popping?
  7. So my car was in the shop last week because I got an error that said service advance Trac and service power steering now. Took it in to the dealer, they changed the whole steering rack (and its all electric as I have a Flex Fusion). Got it home yesterday, drove for a bit, and the code came right back! I don't know much about cars, anyone know what could cause this?
  8. Hi all, I have a 2016 Titanium 2.0 Ecoboost and the other day I was driving in the rain and hit a massive puddle of water with the passenger side front wheel. The force was enough to pull the steering violently as I hit the water. I thought nothing of it until I realized that the steering has become very heavy. I took the car to have the alignment checked and have the wheels balanced and was told that everything is ok and they did not see any potential issues. Strangely, the car obviously still has power steering assistance in some fashion but not like it used to, for example, the steering seemed easier and lighter at low speeds and firmed up at highway speeds, but that is no longer the case. Seems very firm at lower speeds almost like there is no power assistance. I have no warning lights on the dash. I checked all the fuses, all are fine. My car has almost 60,000 miles and is out of warranty. Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts before I drop $$$ at the dealership. Many thanks in advance.
  9. PLEASE HELP!!! all i did was disconnect the battery to locate some wires. 2 hours later i reconnected the wires to the battery terminal. there was a spark when i reconnected the positve back. no, I didn't connect the wires to the wrong terminals, and I didn't do any wire splicing so it's not possible that any wires were crossed. i'm a tech/mechanic by trade, so i'm pretty meticulous with procedure. i checked all the fuses in all 4 compartments(1@ sjb, 3 in engine compartment), pulled each and every one out, checked visually and with the multimeter. i also checked to make sure all the relays are working. all fuses checked out okay. the car starts, but the digital displays don't work, turn signals do not work, power steering doesn't work. radio doesn't work, key remote doesn't work, headlights and foglights turn on, but cannot high beam. winshield wiper works, but winshield spraying doesn't work. lights to interior control only go on for a few seconds when i press the radio on button. driver's side control to windows and lock/unlock do not work, nor mirrors, nor seat memory. window controls to all other 3 doors work, sunroof works, both power seat controls work, but heated seats do not. trunk doesn't open when button is pressed from inside or out, but keypad controls work. so right now my driver's side windows are left open. i went to 4 mechanics who are already charging an arm and a leg to just look at it. hence the reason i never go to mechanics, i do repair and maintenance myself. but these new cars these days are crazy PLEASE HELP? what could have possibly went wrong? it's not making any sense! any ideas or suggestions please!!!! 2014 ford fusion se, 39k, 2.0 ecoboost.
  10. I have had my 2013 Ford Fusion for less than 2 years. I have enjoyed the car very much. It has had a few issues along the way, but nothing major. Yesterday, the Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system failed causing the car to switch to manual steering. Thankfully this did not occur while driving the highway. In doing some research, I have learned that this has been a common issue with the Fusion. And as far as I can tell, Ford has issued recalls for the 2010 - 2012 models but has yet to expand it into the 2013 - 2015 models. Thankfully the issue will be covered by warranty. But where I am most concerned is: (1) is this an epidemic, are other owners of the new fusions experiencing this same issue? and (2) if so, has ford been able to fix the issue or has their fix only be a temporary one and the issue has occurred again? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. If it helps, my Fusion is the SE model, but it is not the Hybrid, Energi, or Ecoboost models. It has the basic 2.5L engine. Thanks, dm
  11. For a few weeks now there has been a whining noise getting worse and worse (first intermittent, then more regular and loud, especially at start-up and while turning). I assumed it was the power steering pump, which I replaced a few days ago. This made the whine lessen but there is a little chirp about a second after I start the engine up (sounds just like the same whine but only for a second, like the belt getting tension) and then at idle it almost sounds like a faint chirp or rattling sound which now goes away once rpms go up. After a day or two the constant whine is completely gone now (before the pump swap it was constant whenever the engine was on, even at idle and while traveling straight) but the steering is a bit heavier, especially low speed (low rpm) turning. Backing my car into a parking space at work this morning was next to impossible as the wheel was very heavy and sluggish and the whine was back and loud as ever for this maneuver. The auxiliary belt seems tight and when changing the pump the idler pulley didn't seem too easy to loosen up, I guess I could replace it and see if this helps but I'm sick of guessing. I'm almost worried I got a bad replacement pump? Also doesn't seem to be leaking fluid anywhere, topped power steering fluid off after changing pump (perhaps a little overfilled) and it is still full. Anyone have any ideas? 2008 Ford Fusion 2.3L I4 5-speed manual
  12. Looking for advice on route to take, Have an appointment on monday (A little long a wait for intermittent steering failure on my family sedan but best they could do) Within 1 minute of starting the car there is a message "Power Steering Fault" and there is no power steering, this has happened 3x in two weeks now. Turn the car off/on the steering is back but feels a little stiff for a while. I have read this is possibly related to cold temperatures which lately is about 0 deg C. Possibly associated issue 2 months ago I had a "Service Advancetrac" mesaage while driving at about 25km/h and the dealer said there was no code was saved so couldnt do anything, come back when the code is on, which didn't happened until now. The advancetrac message was just under warranty (Aprx 55000 kms of 60000) but, now is at 74000 km. I see most people are being stuck with the $1500-2000 bill for a new rack&pinion repair on their 1-2yr old vehicle. 2010-2012 fusions seem to be effected. Has anyone had this problem and had it repaired under warranty? Im having the same issue as many others it seems Any help would be appreciated!
