  1. I drove about 40 miles on the highway to another city today and then drove back. With about 15 miles to go until I got home, my car suddenly lost power. The engine was still running, but when I stepped on the gas, the car was still slowing down. Even if I floored it (at about 30 MPH), I was still slowing down. I pulled over in an abandoned gas station and found that if I put the car in neutral and floored the throttle, the RPMs would not go above 2,000 RPMs. I also found that in drive the car would go about 10-15 MPH at full throttle (still wouldn’t/couldn’t go any higher than 2,000 RPMs). The orange wrench light (transmission light?) was on on the dashboard. I drove the car 15 miles into town at 15 MPH (full throttle, pedal to the metal on the accelerator) on the shoulder the whole way. It literally felt like driving a Power Wheels car. I noticed that if I turned the air conditioner on, I slowed down even more. Also, if I went down a hill, the car would pick up speed to 20 MPH (even after the hill was over) and it felt like the transmission shifted. I would maintain the 20 MPH speed even on level ground indefinitely unless I had to stop (say, for a stoplight), at which point my top speed was back to 10 MPH. I got to the dealership to drop the car off (doesn’t open until Monday). I turned the car off and was going to call a friend for a ride home, but then I decided to turn the car on again and see if I still had the same problem. To my surprise, the car operated normally! It had full power, revved and shifted like normal, etc. I made a couple more stops around town before going home, and each time I turned the car on, it performed normally. Does anyone know what the issue was or is? Is this a serious transmission issue? Or another type of issue? Maybe a computer component caused this issue and turning the car off and on “reset” it? Is it possible that driving full throttle 15 miles home degraded the transmission fluid? Should I bother having the dealer take a look at this issue? At the moment, my plan is that if this happens again, I’ll just pull over, turn the car off, turn the car on, and proceed normally (and if that doesn’t fix it after a few tries, then I’ll limp the car to a dealership to have them look at it). P.S. This happened just half an hour to an hour after my driver’s side door stopped opening from the inside. I can open the driver’s side door from the outside, but not the inside, so I have started exiting the car from the passenger side door. I do plan to take the car into the dealer to have them fix the door, but I wasn’t sure that it would make sense to mention the major mechanical issue I had today since it doesn’t seem to be a problem anymore? P.P.S. Thank you to the guy named Brian/Bryan (sp?) who happened to stop at the same abandoned gas station just before I did. He drove behind me the whole way back into town (at 15 MPH, no less) with his hazards on (in a bright yellow SUV) in order to help keep traffic from hitting me/not noticing me. I doubt he’ll read this, but Brian/Bryan is a good dude—that was very considerate of him.
