  1. Hi all, I'm completely stumped and needing some help. I have a 2006 Ford Fusion SE with 96,000 miles. Last weekend it began running really rough, so I got it to an auto parts store and ran the codes. Cylinder 5 was misfiring. The ignition coil was cracked. I replaced the spark plug and ignition coil and tried starting the car. It started, but was still idling really rough. It ran for 10 seconds or so and then died. Then it would only crank, never fire. After reading up on this forum and others, I saw that it's common for the PCM to go bad when a coil goes bad. So I removed the PCM, and sent it to Circuit Board Medics. I also bought 6 new spark plugs and coils. When I got the PCM back, I changed out all 6 spark plugs and coils (yes, even the new one), reinstalled the PCM, and tried to start the car. But again, it only cranks and won't fire. I'm getting fuel and air to the engine, so I just need the spark. I really have no idea what else to check. At this point I'm wondering if the PCM repair was faulty. The company stresses that they program the PCM and so I don't have to when I receive it. It's also not the security system - when I turn the key to 'on' the security lights up for a few seconds and then turns off. Any other ideas? I'm completely stumped right now. Thanks for any and all help!
  2. Hello everyone, I have a 2011 Ford Fusion, and it recently passed the 100k mile mark. I bought my own spark plugs, and I plan on doing the job myself. When I attempted to replace them last week, I couldn't remove the upper air gasket. I had removed all of the six screws on the gasket in the back, but I still couldn't remove the gasket. The front three were easy because they're right in front of you, but I couldn't get to the three in the back because of the gasket. If anyone knows of a video with this specific gasket design, or if anyone has done the job before on a 2010-2012 Ford Fusion 3.0L V6, please let me know. It is a different design from the 2006-2009 Ford Fusion, and the design is different from the one in the Lincoln MKZ. Thank you, Alex
  3. I'm at 92,000 miles on my 2010 Ford Fusion Sport AWD and was planning on changing my spark plugs and the fluids. I have a friend who's a mechanic that I'd like to have do the work. He doesn't have a lift though and so I was wondering if that would make it impossible to change the transmission fluid? Any info would be appreciated. Also, any recommendations on spark plugs? I used to use Bosch Platinum Plus 4 back when I was in high school (auto parts store guy recomended) which felt like they gave me more power/milage, but I was a kid. Probably all in my head.
  4. I just bought the NGK Iridium IX. Should I return these and get the Motorcraft or the Autolite double platinum?
  5. Here's the deal: Last Friday, I took my '06 Fusion in to the Ford dealership to have spark plugs changed and transmission fluid changed ($500 total) (I'm at 92k miles). I got home after the service, only to check my transmission fluid to find that it was nearly dry. So the next day I took it back and demanded they fix the problem and they did. Yesterday, 5 days after the service, I had to quickly go home from work and get something. I got back in the car to leave the house, started to back out of the driveway and noticed the engine was bogging, RPMs would drop and the engine would be rough. I had no choice but to continue back to work. Today, Thursday, the problem continues, but it's mostly when the engine is strained- accelerating and/or going uphill. Under hard acceleration, power cuts in and out the worst. On my way to dinner tonight, after passing someone, I got the smell of catalytic converter, the CEL started flashing (hadn't been on before that point), and the engine felt very rough. I let off the gas, the light stopped flashing (and completely went off) and the engine felt fine after that. My question: it almost seems like an issue in the fuel system, but could spark plugs also be a possibility? I mean, if the dealership didn't put transmission fluid back in my car, I certainly don't trust the job they did on anything else. The CEL doesn't stay on, but I'm going to go to AutoZone tomorrow and see if they can retrieve a stored code. I'm not made of money (AKA: I'm broke) and bills are due soon, so I hope it isn't something expensive like a fuel pump (yes- that's expensive for me). Any pointers? Thanks in advance.
