  1. Hey all, I recently purchased an 07 Mercury Milan Premier AWD (which to my knowledge is identical to the Fusion in terms of the powertrain). The car has about 110,000 miles and runs great bar a vibration that occurs between 25-35 mph. This vibration is generally more present when the car hasn't yet warmed up. After doing some driving, the vibration mostly subsides. It can be felt pretty strongly in the back of the drivers seat. My first thought was that this is the driveshaft. However, word around the street appears to be that when these do go, I should hear some sort of howl noise. My car remains silent though. Any thoughts on what this can be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Daniel P.S: Putting the car in neutral does not change anything. Also, the car recently began developing a bounce kind of sensation in the front right wheel that typically occurs after driving a bit. Its not pleasant at all and it seems to go away after slowing down a bit.
  2. I am new to the Ford Fusion group in terms of posting but I have used it for answers in the past. I am driving a 2011 Ford Fusion SEL. The vehicle has 103,000 miles on it. About 3 months ago I encountered stop and go traffic due to an accident on the interstate. After coming past the accident and upon accelerating the car started to vibrate / shudder / shake - whatever verb you want to use - it wasn't normal. To the extent my cell phone vibrated out of it's air vent holder. I was a mile away from an exit so I pulled off at that exit and turned off the vehicle. It should be noted when the issue started there were no dashboard lights, there was no RPM abnormalities etc. After turning the car off and waiting about 10 minutes the car started and drove normally. The issue didn't repeat for weeks and the car ran smoothly as normal. It repeated after the same thing - stop and go traffic and upon accelerating. I took the vehicle to my wonderful mechanic that has been doing all the servicing on it. At 100,000 miles Ford recommends spark plugs so they changed the spark plugs, checked the brakes, the tire balance, cleaned out some carbon deposits, and test drove the vehicle - it drove fine. Again - a couple of weeks of normal driving and then it did it slightly one further time. This time back at the mechanic who won't charge me till he knows that the problem is solved and this time they worked on the throttle body which he said was pretty dirty and did a fuel injection treatment and cleaning. Yesterday driving between 0 - 59 mph the vehicle was fine. At 60 it started shaking so I slowed up a bit. Back to 60 and the shaking started. I accelerated a bit more and at 70 on the interstate the shaking lasted for about 3 miles and then went away. Driving back home - about 30 miles - the car was fine and after that short period of vibration and shaking it was fine. My mechanic is a bit stumped and so am I. There are again no warning lights, the RPM seems normal, the vehicle shifts gears smoothly. Just trying to figure out what is going on and if someone in the forum has experienced the same thing. Any help other fusion owners can give is greatly appreciated. Many thanks !
  3. First off, I've tried searching multiple fusion threads but I havn't come across any similar threads with my same specific issues. So i'm hoping i can get some ideas on a diagnosis. I've taken the car into the dealer before on the issue, they blamed the worn out tires and sent me on my way (I've replace those now with zero change on the issue). Here's the quick explanation: The faster I go, the more I hear a hum, vibration, and now more recent a hum/vibration/grinding sound coming from the front engine bay of the car. I've been trying to diagnose it for awhile now (i'm fairly car savy) but this one stumps me. Here are a couple points that might help in diagnosing the issue: The noise is directly related to the speed of the car and the input on the gas peddle. When above 45MPH I start to hear the hum/grind of the noise above the regular road noise and it is progressively more noticeable as the speed increases. Between 80-85 MPH the hum/grind noise hits its peak and sounds like it resonates with the resonating point of the car. Its as bad as a high revving 4 banger with an exaust leak. At all speeds I can press and unpress the gas peddle to momentarily make the hum/grind noise to go away but it will then return after half a seconds time. If I leave the peddle press or unpressed(decelerating in the process) the hum/grind noise is constant. Forcing the car to change gears has no effect on the pitch or sound of the hum/grind noise. "Only the speed and gas peddle inputs change to pitch and momentarily make the hum/grind turn off for a moment" Things I believe I've ruled out: Out of balance tires or rims, breaks or rotors. Driver side front wheel bearing (replaced), I don't think its the passenger front either (No change in noise by harsh steering adjustments) Things I'm worried about: Drive train? Half Axles? Transmission? Engine mounts or linkages? Intake or exhaust issues? Turbo Issue? (I still have great performance tho) Any thoughts? Those are some potentially BIG and EXPENSIVE repairs that would be above my DIY car repair level. So i've been reluctant to bring my car in for diagnosis but its getting worse and now sound more like a vibration/hum with grinding as opposed to more a hum/vibration like it was 5k miles ago. Thanks, Brady Car: 80K miles 2014 Fusion 2.0 EB
  4. Hey guys, new to the forum. I have a 2010 Fusion Sport AWD. It has about 81000 miles on it. I was driving to my sisters a couple hours away yesterday, when I started getting a vibration from what felt like the front passenger side wheel area. Sounds almost like I have a flat tire or running over widely spaced rumble strips. I can feel it too. I first noticed it while slowing to take a turn and thought it was the brakes, but it cleared up and my brakes felt fine, so I went on to my sisters thinking I had ran over some dirt in the road or something. I noticed it a couple more times on the way there, each time while braking. When I got to my sisters I checked my brakes thoroughly. No leaks, no excessive heat at the calipers, nothing loose. I decided to drive it home and try to diagnose it. I noticed that it does it while slowing, whether I'm braking or not. (coasted up some hills). It starts as soon as it slows to about 33 mph, and continues until about 25 mph and as the speed declines so does the speed of the vibration. It only does it while slowing, not while accelerating, and it does it whether I'm in drive or neutral. Oh, and it doesn't do it while it's cold. You have to drive it about 10 to 15 minutes to get it to do it. Any suggestions? It's very noticeable, not just a squeak or rattle.

  6. Hello, new here, so I apologize if this is a common issue (I found a couple things similar but nothing concrete) that has been resolved. I recently (yesterday) purchased a used, 2014 Ford Fusion Energi SE from Carmax with 27K miles. I did drive the car about 10 miles at both stop and go speeds, and highway speeds, however, I didn't really notice an issue until I was alone on the interstate, paying much closer attention. In a band of about 60-75 mph, there is a very slight vibration that occurs (some resonance at those speeds clearly). I have to be gripping the steering wheel tight to feel it, but it's also noticeable in the panels once you realize it's there and feel around the interior of the car. Just to be clear, the steering wheel isn't visually vibrating back and forth, it is very slight, but above 75 mph it seems to go away, and below 60 mph. Today, I ensured the air pressure in the tires all matched at about 44 psi, and took the car back out. Once I reached highway speeds, and noticed the the vibration, I switched the car into neutral. The vibration persisted. That's about as far as I have gotten. I have informed Carmax of the issue this evening by email, so I'll expect to hear something tomorrow from them. I'm still within the 5 days of "no questions return". I assume this could be as simple as tire balancing, but, the pessimism side of me in buying a car fears the worst. In addition to the vibration (maybe related, maybe not), the car seems to have a bit of torque steer when hard accelerating from stop. I know a lot of front wheel drive cars deal with this by splitting up the longer shaft, and I wasn't sure if this was an issue the Fusion has or not. Under normal acceleration, there doesn't seem to be any pulling at all, but if I really press on it (testing the car out while I can return it), it will pull to the right noticeably. Any thoughts, recommendations, etc. would be very much appreciated! I love the car otherwise, and even if it doesn't work out, I will be finding another Fusion Energi to replace it.
  7. Hey all, So, I am having some odd vibration and clicking sounds in my 2010 Fusion and hopefully someone can shed some light. I have a 2010 fusion with about 100,000 miles on it. For about a week or so now, every time i turned left or right (mostly all the way), I would hear an almost clicking like sound coming from the front as i would drive off. Once I straightened out, the sound went away. I do not notice it any time after that. Yesterday though when i was driving down I75, my car would start to like shake or like be bumpy, or like a thumping sound, (not sure how to describe it) if i turned my steering wheel ever so slightly to the right, in one specific spot actually. If I kept it a straight, turned left or moved the wheel left, it would go away. Actually it would go away if i turned or moved the steering wheel even more to the right, there was this spot that if ever just touched my wheel right it would like vibrate and almost feel like a bumpy road. It would be worse at faster speeds. Do not really notice it in city driving. Has anyone experienced this? Are the two matters related? Sorry for the terrible description, but I don't know how to better describe it. Any advice or input it always appreciated.
  8. Ok I have 2013 1.6L ecoboost and lately it seems when we stop at a light the steering wheel shakes / vibration. The car runs fine when in park or in neutral, its just when in gear its runs rough when idling. Also seem to be running a bit louder than usual. I just happened to notice this a few weeks ago. I don't drive it all the time, I just happened to take the car one day and was like wow. It is currently at the dealer and they said everything is normal and no codes from the ECU. It almost seems if it doesn't through a code they don't have a clue what is wrong with it. Anyone else have this issue?
  9. New to the forum, hopefully this is the correct area to be posting this. Hoping someone could give me a little help on this. I have a 2008 Fusion that has a rattle from hell when the engine is at an idle and under some sort of load, power steering, A/C, the alternator, whatever. Sound like marbles in a can. It is especially bad when the car is in gear. You can watch the serpentine belt tensioner jump around as it makes this noise, and if you apply some sort of pressure to the tensioner while it it running it stops. With the belt off everything seems to spin freely. I've already replaced the tensioner (with a Motorcraft one), belt, idler pulleys and the alternator when it gave out. It's been going on for a while now and I can't seem to figure out what is causing it, and I can't really afford to throw parts at it since I'm going to school at the moment. Is there some way to diagnose what is causing this? Or has anyone else had a similar problem? I've hit a bit of a brick wall here, as I do not know how to check what could be causing this.
  10. I've posted other topics on a vibration on my 2010 Fusion, left front wheel. Been going on for two years, since hitting a pot hole and Ford mechanics can't find the issue. So I jacked the car up, put it in neutral and spun the wheel with my hands. I can hear a clicking noise coming from the axle and the wheel is very stiff when moving. Now mind you, this axle has been replaced due to a defect, which caused a leak. I hit the pot hole after the new axle was installed. So I'm wondering if it is the hub assembly or cv joint on the axle. The clicking sound comes from where the inner cv join is.

Here is some documentation on where the rattling noise was coming from.
