Duo
Hi all, Long time reader. So thank you all for the help over the years, but I could not find anything on this sensor in the picture. Long story short, I developed a knock/tick in the upper engine and figured out it was coming from this unit in the picture that plugs into the intake manifold just after the throttle body. The knock/tick only happens at idle after the car has warmed up. If I unplug the electrical connection and the vacuum line, the knock/tick goes away. I assume I need to replace the unit, but I can't even figure out what it's named or its part number. So, #1, Do you think replacing the unit should solve the problem? #2, What's it called or where can I buy a replacement. #3, Can it just be cleaned? #4, I'm sure I'll find out after looking up the part, but is there a related gasket etc I should buy with the part? Duo
Figured out this is the Vapor Canister Purge Valve/Solenoid. So now in my above questions, ignore #2/#4. An additional question now, could the pcv valve be the root cause?
eGuru
This video will show you how to test it. Do you have any error codes?
Duo
I'll watch the video when I'm off from work. Other than that, codes are just evap 455 and 456. Cleaning the gas inlet seems to fix 455 for a while. Have read that 456 is a constant problem with these cars.
Duo
And that video hits the nail on the head. The vacuum is still pulling (hard) with the tube and plug disconnected. Thanks e'Guru! For the record, mine is also ticking loudly and rapidly at idle. Goes away at rev, returns once back at idle.
