ndw0002
I have a 2011 Ford Fusion SE, 2.5L, with a strange noise coming from the front end (driver side). The noise is like a moaning/popping sound. It can be heard best at low speeds (1-40 MPH) going over bumps and is worse when turning. It doesn't happen when the temperature is lower than 70 degrees F. I can't pin point where the noise is coming from, but I am pretty sure it is not a CV joint as the boot is not broke and the sound can be duplicated by bouncing the car when parked. I have called the local Ford dealers in my area and they say that they haven't had any similar complaints with the 2011 models. Has anyone come across this problem in this model of Fusion? I have seen a similar complaint with the older model Fusions (2007-2009). Any advice/info would be appreciated. Thanks!
dave4225
I have the same problem with my 2011. Took it to the dealer today and they couldn't duplicate the problem andwhen iI picked it up either could I. But this afternoon it started again. If I am parked I can turn the car off and quickly turn my steering wheel back and forth about 6 total inches and it makes the same noise. I think it is coming from the steering box.
Mike 257
I have an 08 SEL and mine started making that noise a few months ago , it seems to be doing it more and more lately, It is only at very slow speed . It sounds like something knocking , I dont hear it when I push down on the car but if I pull up on the car I hear it. I was thinking it is suspension related . I only hear it on the drivers side front . If I slip the car in neutral I still hear it while Im slow rolling , and it I turn the wheer fron left to right I hear it . I think by turning the wheel left to right is making the car go up and down and that is what makes me think its suspension related . Is there something that possible needs to be greased ? I car is pushing 80,000 miles
countrygirl
I have a 2011 Ford Fusion SE with the same exact noise coming from the driver side. For months now I have been hearing this grinding, squeaking noise. Took it to a shop they say they can't hear it and the suspensions "seems fine. After a day a two I hear the nois again. Another shop same issue, no one can seem to hear the noise but me. Finally I took it to one shop and they didn't hear the noise but was told it was my lower control arm that needs replacing since there's some play in there. I am actually going to try one more shop to see if i get the same results before I buy any part. I have no play in the steerin wheel at all. Ford has to have known about this issue..
Mike 257
I just got my problem fixed , it was the sway bar links .
Coyotewaits4u
I have a squeaking, groaning noise coming from the front end of my 2011 Fusion SE. It only happens when it is warmer than 50-60 degrees. I read some posts here and elsewhere to try and isolate the problem. I replaced the sway bar links first, as they were only $35.00. No change. Noise still present. I then replaced both front struts/ coil assemblies $300.00. No change, noise still present. During these steps I also inspected the control arm bushings, ball joints, cv joints, boots, etc... I found no play or looseness anywhere. there are plastic covers under my engine compartment that I will remove next to get a better look at things. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Mike 257
Besides replacing the sway bar links, did you also replace the sway bar body mounts?
skittlz22
any luck with figuring out what this could be? I have a 2011 ford fusion that has a terrible, constant creaking knocking noise from the front drivers side. it doesn't make noise when its cooler outside, only when its hot out. It is awful! I have taken it to several shops and one of them changed a lower control arm, but still the noise persisted. A couple of other shops couldn't recreate the noise to figure out what it could be. Now that its summer time here in Texas, there is no mistaking the loud noise. The shop I took it to is saying that they think its the front struts and mounts causing the racket. That's a lot of money to fork over if that will not fix the problem so here I am. thanks for any tips

I do however need to replace the lower control arms also. that will help with noise and with handling of the car.
Poole
I have a 2012 fusion se. Front end making all kinds of creaking and cracking sounds. And just like everybody else it gets worse as the temp goes up. Was told by a mechanic shop the struts where bad. I replaced those but the noise is still there. I noticed the unibody bushings where a little cracked but I don't think that would cause this issue. Everything else looks to be in good shape. Any info would be great.

Could be struts (you replaced). Could be control arms, ball joints, swaybar links, bushings...etc. You need a good shop/tech to check and properly diagnose the issue. Keep us updated and good luck. Poole
Thank you. I was up in the air about the sway bar links or ball joints. I'm not a parts changer. I like to know exactly what the issue is. The struts bit me. I'm not making that mistake again.
