Diane suba
I have a 2017 Fusion, the brakes are so touchy!! I’m just wondering if there is dirt or grease on them. My car has 24,000 miles on it. Could it b time for new pads?
bangster
Touchy as in they go from no braking to lots of braking with little to no input? 24k miles is nothing for the brakes, I am extremely hard on brakes at 46k on my Escape there is hardly any wear, on my larger vehicles I remember getting at least 100k out of them.

Your Fusion is within the 36,000 mile limit, is it still within the 3 year part of the 3 year/36,000 mile New Car Bumper to Bumper Warranty? If yes, make a service appointment to have it checked. When you bring it in, do not just drop it off. Ask the Service Advisor to take a ride or send someone with you, so you can demonstrate the issue you are concerned about. Be sure they acknowledge your concern, so you do not get the dreaded "Could not duplicate customer concern" invoice. If your car is out of warranty, then you need to take it to the Dealer for a check-up or find an independent shop you can trust. Most honest independent shops will take it for a test drive and give you an honest answer as to whether there seems to be a problem, whether your pads are worn and need replacement (visual inspection), etc. The truth is none of us can tell you over the Internet whether you need brakes or not. As bangster mentioned, usually a car with 24,000 miles would not need new brakes. However, we have no idea of the vehicle history, your driving environment, how you drive etc. This is a hands on type of situation, so someone needs to test drive and look at the car. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
bruker
Does it happen every time or just once in a while? Flash rust on the brake rotor will cause the brakes to be touchy the first stop or two but it should get better when the rust is worn away.
