Strange Tones From Back Speaker That Change Pitch With SYNC

Hello. ?

I've been lurking the forums for a while. I've got a 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE. I got it used just over a year ago. My very back speaker has begun emitting strange tones and static that change pitch based on what's on my SYNC screen. For example, I turn the vehicle on as normal. There's a tone/static from the very back speaker. When SYNC produces the Ford logo, brightness changes, etc., the pitch of the tone changes. The pitch will change in sync (no pun intended) with what's shown on SYNC. The speaker emits the tones and static with the radio on OR off, volume up OR down. Audio that is played is unaffected, it actually sounds great and drowns out the tones from the speaker. It seems a computer issue and not a physical issue from the speaker itself. I'm giving it a couple more days before I decide to contact a dealer. I am not exactly caught up on my warranty, I do know I just have some prepaid maintenance visits left, which I know is irrelevant to this situation.

Side note:

I went to my backseat, as one would, to look at these speakers and hear this noise. All of my speaker grills inside of the vehicle above my trunk have orange spots all over them, like rust! I had my windows tinted recently. Could my tinter have dropped tons of water on these back speakers and ruined my grills?

Let me know if any photos or video would help this odd situation!

Hi Lit L. Yes, it is always possible your window tint shop spilled water on your package shelf and speakers/grilles. I would hope it was not "tons" though. ?  Do the spots wipe off? Do you have abnormal rust in other areas of the car, such as the seat rails, under the dash, etc? Do you have a good idea of the history of this car, where it was from etc, before you purchased it?

What do you mean by "I am not exactly caught up on my warranty..."? Are you still within the 3 year/36,000 mile Bumper to Bumper Warranty or has it expired? If you are still within the Warranty period, make a service appointment.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Thanks for the reply! I am now caught up on my warranty. The vehicle was certified used from a Ford dealer. It's history was that of belonging to a rental company.

Warranty Start Date:

1/06/2017

HYBRID - UNIQUE COMPONENTS:

8 years / 100,000 miles.

Bumper to Bumper:

3 years / 36,000 miles.

(Odometer is at 34,103!)

Powertrain:

5 years / 60,000 miles.

Corrosion perferation:

5 years / unlimited miles.

Safety Restraint:

5 years / 60,000 miles.

My speaker grills spots don't wipe away easily, and I see no rust anywhere else. Must have been from the tint guy!

But again, it's almost like amp feedback, and audio quality isn't affected. The more I drive, the more the tones change when accelerating, braking, etc.

Hi Lit L. It is good you still have a little over a month and ~1,800 miles left on your Bumper to Bumper Warranty. I would recommend making a service appointment for as soon as possible, especially with the holidays approaching.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.
