2015 Fusion Remote Start Range Extension

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm looking to extend the range of the remote start on my 2015 fusion. Currently have 2 problems in the way of this, the first of which being I don't know the location of the antenna and cant find anything anywhere online about its location. The second problem I have is that I don't know what extender I could use, but the solution to the first problem would go a long way in the solution for this one as taking a look at the antenna would definitely give me an idea of what I could do with it. I found this online https://bit.ly/2Olcpyz and while it says that its only for 2018-2019 vehicles, I'm not positive this wouldn't work on my model year, as I wouldn't think remote start technology would change drastically over 3-4 years and an antenna is just an antenna so idk maybe it would work but I would appreciate input. Thanks.

What model Fusion, and is it an Intelligent Access with remote start, the OEM Power Code add on, or an aftermarket add on (a separate fob to start, or press lock 3 times)? Does the remote have feedback on if the car is started/running? I think that extender is for the VSS add on 2 way with feedback.

2015 Titanium Ecoboost with pushbutton start. Not sure what intelligent access is, or oem power code add on, but the remote start was included out of the factory and is built into the main remote. The light on my remote blinks red or green depending on whether or not the car successfully started.

I think you need to define how much range extension you are looking for. If it is only another 50M, then perhaps an improved antenna or different placement might work. If you are looking for hundreds of meters of additional range, then you would need to replace the existing system (and fob).

I believe your RS has a range of about 100M.

Whatever’s the maximum range I can get with the hardware I have. All I want to have to add is an antenna, not a new transmitter and receiver and all that stuff. The antenna I listed earlier in this thread says it works up to 2500 ft, which would be great if I can get that.

IDK where the antenna for your remote start system is located. Since it is of very limited range, I suspect it is using the same antenna that is used by the fob for the remote lock/unlock functions. If that is the case, the antenna is integrated into the BCM.

Unless someone else (maybe bangster) on the forum actually knows about this system, your best bet may be to check with your dealer.

I dont think that its the same antenna I think it is something that would be directly connected to the remote start module, although I could be wrong. I am very surprised though that there is not more information on this, I would've thought something like this would be common knowledge, but I guess not. Cant find anything about this online. How would I PM bangster? I'm new to this forum. Joined it just to get this question answered.

I am still learning my way around this specific manual, and I will say that there are gen 2 (2013-2016) and gen 2.5 (2017-2020) and I don't doubt for a minute this changes between them.

I think that all the button actions on the key fob use the RTM (Remote Transceiver Module) in the headliner (the REMOTE features)

PATS front antenna is for Push to Start.

Keyless Entry rear antenna is for proximity.

Unfortunately the manual doesn't discuss remote start and following bangster's analysis it seems logical that, in the OP's case, the remote start is via the RTM module in the headliner.

However, logic and actual are different things and since we haven't solved the OP's problem, a trip to the dealership may still be the best first step.

Way late to the party. I don’t believe factory systems can be upgraded for range but you can how ever add an after market remote start system.

what that does is give tour factory one the remote start command from either a secondary fob which has varying range depending on which fob and antenna you choose or can be done through an app so asking as both the vehicle and car have cellphone signal it will review the command and notify you if it executed.

most common brands for that is Viper and Compstart

hope this helps.
