Driver foot rest/dead pedal

Greetings all.  I am a 2012 SEL owner and was looking to upgrade to a newer Fusion.  Today I test drove a 2017 Titanium.  I love the car with the exception of the dead pedal.  I like to stretch out, and I found it quite uncomfortable, like I have nowhere to put my left foot.  I can't drive very long with my knee bent.

My 2012 has plenty of room, but it felt cramped in the 2017.  It seems like most of the newer model Fords have this same foot rest.

Does anyone know if the foot rest can be removed?  Or is the floor pan immediately underneath?

Thank you for your response.   What exactly is "floorpan"? Do you mean the carpet? I'm willing to cut off the "bump".

I thought there would be a plastic piece(footrest) screwed to the floor under the carpet...

Floorpan is the metal floor.  He’s saying it’s part of the metal stamping as opposed to an added piece.

Hi Liampato. What akirby stated. It is not a plastic piece (or other material) that can be removed.

Short story: To get rid of it, you would need to remove the carpet, hack out the existing part of the floorpan sheet metal and weld in a new, flat piece of sheet metal. Obviously, that would not be recommended. So your far simpler option is to do what all of us do, and stretch out your leg and foot just to the right of it.

Good luck.

If you pull the carpet up where the foot rest is there's a piece of foam that you can remove to make it about a inch and a half shorter. Pretty easy to do, it's all trim and clips to take apart
