JasonWayne
Hey Everyone, I have been searching around the forum and the internet and wanted to get in here and see if I can get some advice/thoughts from the community lets jump in. So I have The SYNC with MyFord with a basic 4.2-inch screen. I wanted to upgrade this to SYNC 3. I found two options and a How To. I can: Source the parts individually and install it myself which I read I can do starting at $400 Buy a kit from 4D Tech which is $1500 and install it myself Then I saw this puppy here which is a complete custom build that the creator did not seem to be willing to share the spec on Ford Fusion iPad Pro in dash upgrade Ideally, I'd like to do an upgrade like this without having to take out the vents, maybe a smaller tablet?, and create a kit for others who are interested but I if I have to stick to the Sync 3 upgrade I'll stick to that. Curious about your guys and gals thoughts on the subject. All ideas welcome. Edited October 7, 2020 by JasonWayne bad link

Next, your Ford Fusion iPad Pro link only links right back to your own post for me. As far as which to do; Upgrading to SYNC 3 can be done easily and relatively economically, especially if you source your own parts. If you want to do something custom to the specs you mention, you will be blazing a new trail. Success and quality of outcome will all be up to your wallet, patience and ability. I can tell you from many years experience on the Fusion Forums that there will not be much of a take rate on people purchasing a "kit". And very likely a close to zero take rate. Reality has always shown that while some people may/will express some basic interest in buying an Internet kit, when it actually comes time to pay their money, that interest will disappear. So don't do it out of a hope to help others or recoup some costs. as that will not happen. This will be even more true now that the Fusion is no longer in production. It is nice of you to offer, but I just don't want your expectations to be too high. If you are asking an opinion, I would recommend upgrading to SYNC 3. But that is just a blind, Internet opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide to do and keep us updated.

Thank you for the Quality Assurance tip. I had never heard of a kit for this kind of thing until I was researching the sync 3 upgrade and I am leaning in favor of your opinion for going with the Sync 3 upgrade over the iPad upgrade for many reasons, but I have to admit the iPad upgrade is a very alluring project for me. Mainly because I have a thing for product development unfortunately not much of a commercialization guy though. I could get into a lecture about your experience with the take rate but it would conclude with 100% agreeance with your opinion. In my field, we are taught never to believe anyone until money is on the table. I just got a little over-excited when I saw the youtube video. In these wild times, I am not sure trailblazing is the right decision for me. I think I'll go with the Sync 3 upgrade and maybe next year consider this project again. I'll be sure to post some before and after pics when I pull the trigger. Thanks again for your opinion and thanks for the welcome I am happy to be here.
renato_furnas
Hi everyone. Las weekend I did upgrade of my SYNC to SYNC 2 of my 2015 Ford Fusion S. So I bought pre-owned sony climate interface, pre-owned sync 2 with screen and the conversion power hearness cable. Now I got 2 problems. The first one is airbag light is on and the second one is air-conditioning has upsidedown temperatures. When I setup to cooling it starts to heat up and vice versa. More I lower the temperature the hotter it blows the air. Only way to stop blow any hot air is setting temperature up to Hi but in Hi climate turn air conditioning compressor off. I am using in 85° and the air blows fresh not cold. Now I have no idea how to fix it. I have tried to hard reset my sync 2 but no success. Anyone know how to solve it? Thank you.

Hi renato and welcome to the Ford Fusion Forum. Are you saying that you "upgraded" from SYNC to SYNC w/MyFordTouch (which some people call SYNC 2)? While I can not accurately diagnose what is wrong with the component you received (programmed wrong/buttons reversed/bad unit etc.), I can state that I wish you had asked here before performing that "upgrade" to MyFordTouch/SYNC 2. MyFordTouch/SYNC 2 was plagued with performance issues. Which is why it was replaced with SYNC 3. The FCIM units go bad at an inordinate rate, sometimes leaving the controls with a mind of their own and often unusable. You would have been better off finding the components to "upgrade" to SYNC 3 (which you can still do). Perhaps one of our tech members will be able to jump in and provide more insight. Keep us updated and good luck. Edited October 14, 2021 by bbf2530
renato_furnas
Hi bbf thanks for answer. Yes, I have updated from sync to sync my ford touch. I decided made this update instead of sync 3 because the cost for this was considerably lower than the sync 3 and I was not sure if it works so I decided spent less money in case I have insoluble issues. That's the reason I found this forum only now. I performed few tests this morning and my conclusion is the issues come from sony climate panel. I removed sony panel and I made test with my old sync 1 panel and the air conditioning ran fine and the airbag light turned off. As soon as I connected sony panel immediately the airbag light turned on. In my opinion sony panel has different pins combinations in the plug causing conflict or this panel has some issue.
Multitask
One thing that comes to mine, is that the 'Sony' facia is digital, so if you did not buy the digital ACM and or the APIM, then this is why it does not work.
