Bought Fusion Hybrid 2019 - Low MPG, Low Electric Threshold, No Battery Icon

I just bought a 2019 Fusion Hybrid with only 6k miles on it. It’s virtually brand new. I drove it home (mostly highway) and drove it around my neighborhood. Even in my neighborhood with mostly speeds around 25mph my gas engine is kicking in. My mpg is 30.8 mpg, which isn’t bad but not even close to the advertised 45mpg.

I also noticed the battery icon is missing, so I have no idea what the charge is. Anyone else have a similar issue? I’m really worried I got a lemon here on this one. I can’t for the life of me figure out why the electric motor barely ever runs, even when I turn off climate control. See pictures below:

I also noticed my threshold for moving to gas seems ridiculously low. Barely pressing the gas puts me out of EV. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi FusionForce. It is difficult to diagnose over the Internet. How long have you actually had the car?

You seem to describe a very recent purchase with "6K miles", but the odometer states 7,000 miles.

And it seems you are describing a situation where you just purchased and drove the car home a few days ago, around the block for awhile, and are trying to ascertain real world MPG's. That is not realistic. Despite all the electronics and bar graphs, short term driving is not a good indicator of real world fuel mileage. You need to drive the car for 500 miles or more to begin accurately calculating your own mileage.

Also, you have no idea how long the car was sitting on the Dealers lot. Therefore, the Hybrid battery may be low on charge.

However, your car is well within the 3 year/36,000 mile Bumper to Bumper Warranty, so if you think there is an issue after you have driven it for awhile, then make a service appointment.

Keep us updated and good luck.

You have to select in displays to put the battery on the screen.

And yes it is entirely normal for the ICE to kick on unless you've got an extremely light foot, hence the reason for using pulse and glide when driving.

This isn't an Energi which is meant to have an extended ability to run on battery from a dead stop.

Mileage depends entirely on your foot, outside temp and the grade of fuel you use (87 octane from a Flying J took me down to 24mpg, I get 38mpg+ on Shell)
