c290466
I am debating the option of installing a 1 PSI supercharger in my 2009 Fusion. Is it worth the 400$ price tag. and will if not what can i do to make this 4 cyl. more aggressive?
Oblivion
Who is the vendor? i have never heard of such item for a fusion.
FtLewis2002
$400.00? Maybe $4000.00...it's not a supercharger for $400.00...I promise.

akirby
That's essentially a hair dryer and no, it's not worth a plug nickel.

wydopnthrtl
You won't see significant power gains until you get into the 6psi area.
c290466
Thanks, for all the replies! That's why I joined this Forum. The engineer in me, questions this Supercharger sold by Myhotcar.com 1 psi boost. they claim 5-15% increase in BHP. They also wanted to sell me a chip that would gain me 20 BHP
xmech2k
So where on Myhotcar.com did you find this 1 PSI supercharger? I went to the site, and it just has links to all kinds of Hot recipes, hot chatrooms, etc. "myhotcar.com. Search the Web: Hot Cars. Hot Chat. Hot Video Games. Hot Clothes. Hot Couture ... Spanish Words. Words To Songs ©2009 myhotcar.com All rights reserved. ..." I really would like to see this supercharger! Maybe you just misread something I hope.
c290466
Here is the link to the website. http://www.yourhotcar.com/product/list/200...on/Air_Intakes/ I don't have a good feeling about this one after all I read on this forum. Thanks...
c290466
Sorry, My bad! Your hot car, as seen above.
xmech2k
Wow. Well, looking at their graph, looks like you're losing HP or torque at low RPM. It's not very clear which one. Quite a bit. Which would make sense, as if the fan is not running unless you're at WOT, it's an air restrictor any other time... Unless you swallow the crap that Tornado is trying to sell, swirling the airflow. But if that really worked, with the MPG wars the manufacturers are having, why isn't one already in every car we buy? (I know, an oil company cover-up/conspiracy) And why do the serious drag racers do all they can to smooth and straighten air flow? I don't know if these snake-oil sellers piss me off or inspire me to come up with some kind of crap myself so I can laugh all the way to the bank too...
RF Overlord
xmech2k summed it up perfectly. These things are a joke and a complete waste of money, as are the so-called "chips", which are in reality a 15-cent resistor from Radio Shack that goes inline with the IAT sensor and fools the PCM into thinking the incoming air charge is cooler than it really is.
jameswatt
It looks like you were looking at cold air intakes. I don't see a supercharger. See my thread about my 2009 Ford Fusion |4cyl and the few things I am going to do to it to make it faster.

Some companies actually do make a blower that fits on the intake but it's no more powerful than a hair dryer and is totally worthless.
twiggy144
That supercharger produces even less boost than this setup:

jkingman
That supercharger produces even less boost than this setup: LMAO! Dude... you have everyone here at work cracking up (mainly because they heard the story about the dead mouse on my motor mount just yesterday)... said I was going to replace my "One Mousepower" engine with this rig
ehidle
A 1 psi bolt-on blower will do nothing. Increasing air to the engine without changing the fuel map will only cause a lean burn, and depending on where the stock open-loop fuel map is (pretty sure they still go open-loop during acceleration), higher EGT and possibly damage to your emission control system.

I think the car could compensate for air going into the engine. Your MAF reads the amount of air, AIT would read the temp and the car would add fuel accordingly. If it were a proper S/C he would need new high flowing fuel injectors, tune, etc. I've seen those little blower things too and they're garbage. Why would someone want to put moving plastic pars inside their air intake system I do not know, if any of those fans break guess where the parts are going. Also the motor could probably suck in more air then the little fan could push so really they just slow down air flow.

It doesn't generate enough pressure.
