deo1929
Hello; i just bought the exact same car 2010 fusion 6 speed manual trans ,black interior on april 2. Just turned 620 miles on the odometer. Do you know what the minimum speeds are for 5'th and 6'th gears. I do a lot of driving at 45 mph and am wondering if that is to low for 6;th gear. I wish ford would put out a common sense gear chart.i am trying to keep my cruising rpm's at 1800-2000. does this make sense? Hey Dennis, (great name by the way) My wife and I drive more towards economy and live in a mostly flat area. When I drive, I'm usually a 1-2-3-4-5-6 gear shifter (shifting between 2-2500 RPM) and easily shift into 6th by 35 MPH. I've found that under continuous cruising, you can shoot for around 1500 RPM under most conditions. The engine has a nice wide torque curve and seems to live well in that RPM range. I have even watched some youtube videos of '10 Fusions with 4 cylinder automatics and interestingly enough, under level cruising, the tach was showing around 1500 RPM at 35-40 MPH. Of course, uphill, acceleration, etc. will require a downshift. Driving like this, we are averaging 30.3 MPG in a mix of driving from city stop and go to interstate beltway cruising. That's the same MPG we were getting with a Corolla with an automatic. Hope this helps. Edited April 26, 2010 by deo1929

Traffic was terrible today and the computer still managed to increase my mpg's slightly,,so i know i have not maxed out yet. Right now i am at 25.2 mpg and still rising. All the road construction that is going on i would be happy to reach 26 mpg...NOT !! ...i want more. Dennis

Dennis It's all about the "Feel", you can tell if your car is going to slow for the selected gear, it will start to lug and be un-responsive (which is bad!) by all means if you want to increase MPG keep tabs on your tach. and keep it as low as possible without "lugging". Dennis If it's any consolation, it took about 8-900 miles for our mileage to start creeping up into the hi 20's. We started off at 25-26 in all around driving. One other thing I do is run my tire pressure at 36 PSI. It doesn't stiffen up the ride much but does help in the mpg's.
Dennis
Check out the Weather Tech Digital mats, they cover up a lot more area than the OEM rubber ones, wish I had purchased those instead of the OEM ones, dirt and junk gets jammed down between the foot rest and mat on the drivers side. I have a maunal trans which means i have 3 pedals instead of 2 on the drivers side. Do you think the weather tech mates would fit my fusion ? Dennis I bought the Huskyliners which are very similar to the Weathertech and were a bout 40% less through Autoanything.com. They fit like a gloved with 3 pedals. These are not the all weather mats but the floor linders with lips that curve up and completely cover the carpet especially under the pedals. The have them in grey, black, and tan. Check them out. BTW...took a trip from Indy to St. Louis. I drove around town here...then to STL...around town there...and then about half way back before stopping for fuel. With wind, running the A/C part-time and the cruise set at 70, I got 32.3 MPG with 3 adults and a trunk full of luggage. Not too shabby.

I will check out the huskyliners.. thanks for the info...Dennis

When I fill up, my calculation is that much less than the readout. I usually do the real math and just use the dash display as a trend guide. On mixed 2 lane 55 MPH and interstate 70 MPH, I've gotten as high as 35.3 MPG. Since this will be the first summer driving, I don't know how AC use will affect it. Time will tell....

I noticed when i filled up i had more gas in the tank than the car was telling me.The miles to empty said 30 and it should have said 85 miles to empty. I guess the car is still learning and averageing everything out. I don,t even have 800 miles yet on the car. One quick question...Do you think it is possible to reverse the head rest on the fusion?? i think it is in the way of me being able to sit with my back flat on the car seat.It seems to poke you in the back of the head. ImBroke
Just hit 2500 miles, and still love the car. Leather seats have to happen though, this cloth is killing me. Been getting a minimum of 33 according to the "Lie O' Meter", and have all of my receipts, so maybe I'll add them up and see what it really is. Mods are officially on hold til after this house sells and we move into the next one. Of course by then, it'll be improvements to the new house. Maybe I can squeak some in here and there. I'm thinking of just painting the grille instead of getting the mesh one. Looks pretty good photoshopped. Now if I can get my wife to sell the Del Sol, since the Fusion gets just as good of milage, and has more room, etc..
