Musicman
Hi guys......my free trial subscription to Sirius (for my car) is expiring Jul 1st. Right now they're sending me emails asking me to renew for $12.95 a month. Should I wait and let it expire, then see if I can get a better deal? Is $12.95 as low as they are going at the moment? Have any of you renewed a subscription recently for less than $12.95? If so, how did you go about it? I've heard about people calling and and getting them to renew for less than $10 a month (like 1 or 2 yrs ago), but I'm not sure if that can still be done. Any and all feedback is appreciated.... Thank you!!

Im sorry but I dont remember the numbers, but I got two letters from Sirius... one about 1.5 months before my expiration was up, and one about a week before my subscription was up... the one that I got a week before was the better deals for the short term contracts.
leebo
I've had Sirius for about 4 years now installed in my Dodge Intrepid. I've "tried" to cancel the service for the last year or two now, but each time I called they offered me over the phone a deal that was too good to pass up. I myself plan on calling the 800# right before the trial is over and telling them you'd like to cancel the service. If they offer the same plan to the trial plans as they have the "paying plans" it was something in the area of $25 for 6 months. I've re-upped with this plan several times now, and not once have they hesitated to offer it to me. The $13 a month plan is they're plan all the time......unless they raise their prices(which with MP3 players, Pandora, and so on) I don't see them doing that anyways. I wouldn't worry about renewing your plan at the current price, but wait to see if you can get better. Here's a link to SlickDeals where several others have had the same luck recently getting this rate. http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=367964&t=2924761
Jeff10236
They'll call you a week or two before it expires. I ignored the emails, I wasn't 100% sure if I wanted to keep it or not, and I didn't have time to look over the plans to decide if I did. I was going to let it lapse, and if I changed my mind I'd just subscribe later. In the phone call they offered a pretty nice deal (especially after I said I wasn't sure I wanted to renew) and I ended up taking it. I don't remember what it was though (even though it was only about 2-2 1/2 weeks ago), I'd have to check the credit card statement. Wait until they call, and try to negotiate something and you'll probably do better.
leebo
Just got an email today from them. 1/2 off service for the next 6 months plus free activation. Let it pass, they can do better.
evh
Simply call them. You don't need any special "deal". I call them and lock in at $75 firm. With no auto-renewal. They simply bill my credit card for $75 and I am good for a year. At renewal time I am going for $65.
Musicman
Update: Well my trial (6 mos) subscription is expiring tomorrow (7/1). So just outta curiosity I called Sirius today to see what they could do. Basically, the first thing the Rep said was the $12.95 a month was the best they could do for me specifically. Then I told her that I did online research, and I have seen better deals people have gotten when I've looked on various message boards, etc....She then put me on hold to talk to a supervisor, then came back and said my radio is not eligible for any of the better deals at this time. ?? I said are you sure?....and she said yes and apologized. She then told me that if I didn't renew today, that I will most likely get phone calls after it expires with potential better deals. I kinda wonder why I haven't received any calls from them right before it expired, to get me to renew. Maybe cause it was a trial, and I'm not a paying customer yet?? Anyway, should I obviously wait till after it expires then? And wait and see if I get a phone call with them offering a better deal? Is there anyone out there that just had a trial subscription, then got offered a good deal (for a paid subscription) once it expired? If so.....what was the price you agreed on? Thanks!!

I'll try to keep this from being a book! My trial ended mid May, but they never turned off my service. I wasn't going to complain. They started calling, emailing and sending real mail to me. I figured if the price was right, I would go for another year. They have two offers. If I remember correctly, they are called Sirius Select and Sirius Premium. They offered me a package for $77 for the year. I told them that I would only be interested in the package with all of the channels. They promised me that I would get all channels for $77 (plus tax and royalty fees.) I signed up, but I had read not to give them a credit card. Thankfully, I didn't! When I got the bill, it said that it was for "Select," which sent up a red flag. They also charged me a $2 fee for paying by check. Nobody told me that. Sure enough, we were listening to a channel that was listed on "Premium" and the channel went off. So did a bunch of others. I have enough trouble in my life, and didn't want to deal with this, so I called them up screaming and just told them to cancel my service. After trying to get me to pay the extra $30 for Premium, I kept just telling them that I wanted to cancel. They changed the package to the Premium, no extra charge. (BTW - I still hadn't paid them.) The next piece of mail that I got from them stated that I owed them $128, plus another $2 charge for something else that I can't think of right now. Back on the phone and they finally straightened it out. They also removed the $2 charge. Once the stations were put back, I sent in a check. Moral of the story? Don't give them an advantage of having your credit card#. . . Good luck!! Eneg
Musicman
Thanks Eneg....I appreciate your input! Anyone else have something they can add (that relates to my situation)?? Thanks!
Musicman
UPDATE: Well.....my (trial) subscription expired, and they pulled the plug on my stations. I got an email from them on Friday, for the 12 months @ $77 deal. I find it odd that I haven't received a phone call(s) though. Maybe they do email(s) first, then go to phone calls?? Anyway....should I take this deal, or should I wait in hopes for them to offer me something better??? Thanks!!
leebo
That works out to around $6 a month. That's about as cheap as I've seen. If you listen enough, I'd say go for it. I honestly dont see much cheaper......but you never know.
Deathlok
Last year I got the $77 a year deal. (this was after my free trail expired) But I paid with CC, so this year they autoed it at $180 a year or something. So for next year, should I just call my CC and ask them to block sirius auto renewal? (and wait for a better deal?) I REALLY love sirius! Totally worth it for me, after all, you got one life and you gotta live! Edited July 26, 2011 by Deathlok
leebo
Id suggest you call them now Deathlok. Ask for a cancel, and you'd like a prorated refund. I did that on my first car with Sirius. See if they'll offer you a discount to stay....worse that will happen is you'll play the "I changed my mind and I'll keep it" game. BTW.....if you read the agreement you'll see that auto-renew is always set. You've gotta request this to be turned off and a bill to be sent.
con_fusion
So last year I was able to get a year for $77 plus fees. My year was up and I called to cancel, they offered to let me have the same $77 for the next year so I renewed at $77 + some fees/taxes. Like 85.xx total.
DCSport
I was trying to hold out to see if I could do the old Sirius trick in order to get my radio to not be de-activated, but I'm a little confused now. I didn't use the Sirius for about a week during the time it was supposed to expire (Aug 28) and I tried it the other day and all my preset stations work except one (of course, my favorite station, Octane!) Says "Unsubscribed Channel, please call XXXXX".... I have a plug and play Sirius unit I cancelled in March and left it unplugged before I cancelled it until a few weeks ago and it still works great, all channels! They sent me the e-mail yesterday for the $6.42/month for a year special! Edited September 6, 2011 by DCSport
