My New 2012 Fusion now has 3600 miles when should I change the Factory oil and filter?

If you search this site you'll probably find many threads on this topic, and as many opinions on the subject as the number of threads.

Some will say follow the manual recommendations as engines are now far more advanced and don't have a specific "break in" period where an early oil change is needed to get rid of microscopic metal shavings, etc... that's for the old days.

But I'm older and set in my ways and it's my money, so I did my first change at 1,000 miles and have done every 5,000 miles after that. Some will say that this is a waste of money, but as you get older you care less and less about what others think and choose to do whatever you want with your money and your car.

Good luck -

Iam on the better side of 50 and was thinking the same thing

will get a Filter and oil tomorrow if we dont get icy roads.

Then change every 5,000 the car is highway driven only 50 miles per day.not very much stop and go at all.

I change the Oil on my focus every 5,000

I feel cars should be run with a non-sythetic oil for the first 3000-4000 miles to help the rings seal. So if you choose to change your oil at 1000 miles, don't use a synthetic yet. I did mine at about 4000 miles and put in full synthetic. Burned a little oil at first but now I'm down to zero oil consumption after the first change.

As far as oil change intervals, I believe your car has an intelligent oil life monitor that will tell you when it's time to change your oil. Make sure you reset it when you change your oil. The factory recommended oil interval is 7500 miles, which you should have no problems reaching with mostly highway use like you stated. Just change it when it tells you to after the first change.

They come with Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5W20 from the factory. It's about 30% synthetic I believe.

I'm also fairly confident the 2012's have an OLM, so reading the book is a good idea.

Hey thanks guy

I found the OLM on the steering wheel ,check the oil life its at 53% with 3700 miles

I will change oil when the weather gets a little in a few days calling for ICE tonight

Ford has a slightly different specification for factory fill oil than for the service oils. I presume because it helps break-in the engine. I would leave it in for the first 3-4,000 miles, just to ensure the rings have seated correctly. Unintended consequences of early switch to full synthetic might be excessive oil consumption. spark plug fouling, loss of compression, etc.

So iam on target for a 4,000 change soon then maybe to Syn/Blend or Full Synthetic

The Ford specification would require a synthetic blend or full synthetic, 5W20 or 0W20. Motorcraft offers a synthetic blend 5W20 or full synthetic 5W20 as I recall. The specification is the more important thing, not how you get there.
