Rearview Mirror vibrates/shakes

I have 2010 Fusion SEL with the rear camera and my rearview mirror shakes/vibrates while driving. It drives me crazy. While driving down the highway everything is like a blur cause the mirror is vibrating/shaking. I have had the car a little over a year. Had the mirror replaced a few months after I got it and it had the same problem. Had it in another time and they adjusted it but the problem remained. If I touch the mirror while driving the shaking stops.

Took it in again a few weeks ago and they ordered a new one. The replacement didn't have the camera display but it still shook so they had to order another one. Got a new one installed today and it has two scratches/gouges on the mirror so they have to order another one. It appears from the drive home it still shakes. On the last one I had, I would have to adjust the position about once a week because it would slowly vibrate its way down.

I have probably taken it in at least six times to get this corrected but the issue still exists. Does anyone else mirror shake/vibrate while driving? I know that if you crank up the radio loud enough it will but this is with no radio on. How is it possible I have had 4 rearview mirrors and they all shake?

Strange, haven't noticed any shaking on mine. Only mirror that shakes is my driver side mirror (while my passenger side mirror is fine) when I have my radio up loud. Funny thing is my old 2008 Focus does exact same thing. I havent noticed any shaking at all when crusing at 70mph though.. I'll look harder next time.

Hi Paterick,

My mirror doesn't shake. Changing your mirror worked for a while? I was going to suggest the glue holding the bracket to the windshield is soft, but that wouldn't get any better with a new mirror. I'm puzzled.

It's definitely not normal, or acceptable. I've got a 2011 with just over 10k miles so it'll get fixed under warranty once I have a chance to take it in.

The problem is not due to the windshield/stem interface being loose, which it is (although maybe this caused it?) If I hold the stem firm, the mirror does not stop shaking so it's in the ball joint assembly on the backside of the mirror. My Sync system just started flaking out too (I'll try to pull the fuse and see if that works) :waiting:
