MTLFusion2010
I started noticing a vibration in the front end. It is not a warped rotor. It may be that one of the front wheels lost its balance, but usually when that happened to me in the past, the vibration only appears at a specific speed. This time, even when I roll at very slow speeds, you can feel a pulsing tug in the steering wheel which keeps increasing in frequency, starts feeling as a vibration in the front end, as the speed climbs. Although I plan to take my car to the dealer to be checked, I appreciate your input regarding what things to look for in addition to unbalanced wheels. Thank you to all..
FusionDiffusion
Did you make sure the lug nuts aren't loose? Tire pressure normal? It's possible you broke a belt or something in the tire and the tire is eccentric.
MTLFusion2010
Lug nuts are tight, tire pressure is correct, and there is no visual deformation in the tires. I will try to post a video of driving very slowly, you can see the steering wheel pull a little in a rhythm. It does feel to the hand like a warped rotor, except you are not applying the brakes at the time.
drolds1
Have you pulled the front wheels for a visual inspection yet? I had very similar symptoms due to bent front wheel after hitting a pothole in the middle of a dark highway. It could also be caused by a shifted or defective belt in the tire, as FusionDiffusion stated. I know you said you're taking it to the dealer but you might be able to isolate the problem by swapping wheels front to back, one side at a time.
MTLFusion2010
Thank you both for the suggestions. If I manage to get an early appointment, that will be it, otherwise, I will follow your advice and swap front/rear tires one side at a time. Thanks.
mnrick
What was the problem with the car when you took it in? I was going to ask if you live someplace where it snows. I get a lot of vibration problems with mine in the winter, it is from snow getting packed into the wheels.and then you start feeling a strong vibration in the front end. Usually taking it to a car wash and getting all the snow and ice blasted out of the wheels and the areas around the wheels will solve the problem .

Had to travel and just got back, so I have not looked into it yet. Will post when I do, Yes it snows a lot where I live, but this problem has been consistent long after the snow melted away from my car (it sits in an underground parking )

MTLFusion2010
Back on topic... Problem solved. It turned out one of the front tires had low pressure. These are my winters mounted on steel wheels so I did not bother with TPMS and relied on a hand-held gauge, which turned out to be defective. A few dollars on a new gauge and some air in the tire and all is back to normal. Thanks to all for your input.

MTLFusion2010
I just installed my summer tires. The front right that came off showed the wheel was bent on the inside lip. Must have hit a pothole hard. Is it worth looking i to fixing the wheel or are these rhings unfixable?

Must have hit a pothole hard.Is it worth looking i to fixing the wheel or are these rhings unfixable? It's definitely worth it. I had mine repaired for a fraction of the price of a new wheel and it was perfect after the repair. Do an Internet search for a place in your area that specializes in alloy wheel repair. They'll tell you if it's repairable. Most likely it is.
