Sounds like you're good to go. No worries.

Yeah it works...but I would like the option in the menu in the dashboard to change the options. Another couple questions...is it normal for the air or heat to go on even though the heat was off when the car was last turned off? I'm guessing this is a feature of the remote start for defrosting or cooling the car off. Also is there a way to get the rear defrost to turn on when the remote start is used?

You can't turn on the rear defrost, but the climate control should come on to target 70F if memory serves. If you get the system disabled then reactivated, you should have control of it. The problem is that on 2013, IDS asks config questions about what the vehicle is equipped with and if you don't answer right, you can have strange problems. Also, while this can be done problem free with IDS and VCM, it's best done with IDS and the new VCM II. If your tech is unfamiliar with enabling and configuring the system on 2013, it would explain a lot. Most good shops will have another look at it for no charge if you've got problems.

OK. Thanks for the answers. Now I have the 2013 fusion se with the standard message center between speedometer and the tachometer. If the unit was programmed correctly I should have the options to change the remote start settings in the menu, correct? I'm looking at the menu items for the advanced message center and it appears there are all different settings to enable rear defrost, heated seats, etc.... I've attached the menu items made available after activation on the advanced message center.

Would I have the options which would apply to my vehicle with the standard message center? Such as enable/disable system, rear defrost, duration, quiet start...?

terrierl,

Did you finally get all of the bugs worked out on your RMST install for your 2013 Ford Fusion SE and does all of your programming options work on the in dash display now, please advise. I am looking at installing the same remote on a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE and I just want to make sure everything will work like the factory install. I know after I install this myself I will still need to take back to my dealer to program.

Thanks,

gmarshall

Unfortunately I have not gotten this issue resolved yet. I'm waiting for a part that is on back-order, which is unrelated to the remote start issue completely. The remote start is working, sort of, but I have no options at all to change any of the settings through the message center. Right now the only thing the car does is blow out cold air when the car is started using the remote start. Which kind of sucks because it is still cold here in NY. I have no way of changing the temperature options since they are not present in the message center. Once the parts come in I will be taking it down to Ford in hopes of getting this issue resolved.

terrierl,

When you have any additional information about this please post the outcome. Also can you tell me where you mounted your antenna at, I have a 2013 Fusion Hybrid SE with driver assist package that has the rain sensing wipers and the lane assist feature that has a rather large box located behind the rearview mirror, did yours have this box, if so did you have to mount your antenna below this box or somewhere else. If i have to mount below the box behind the rearview mirror the antenna would be located about half way down my windshield and I don't think that would like right. If there is anyone out there that had the remote start come from the factory would you please tell me or maybe post a picture of where your antenna is located on the vehicle.

I have all those features also and my remote antenna is mounted the the right of the "big black box" and at the top of the glass. Immediately to the right of the antenna is my EzPass transponder. I have a Ford unit that was installed after delivery.

I have the SE model with 1.6 ECO. I do not have the rain sensing wiper or lane assist feature. So I was able to mount the antenna right below the dotted portion on the windshield with the wire connection terminal facing the headliner directly above. The antenna looks fine where it is and does not obstruct my view at all. I also get great range. I'm able to start the car from where I sit in the office and I am on the third floor on the opposite end of the building. The remote unit beeps right away so I'm sure it would work from even further away. I'll shoot a picture when I get out to the car and upload it later on.

Also, I will definitely post more as soon as Ford gets the panel I am waiting to have installed. Apparently, there is an extreme shortage of the part I am waiting on and the Ford corporate department is now involved. As soon as I have them look at the remote start and attempt to reprogram it I will let you know the outcome.

hermans,

Is the Ford remote start system that you had installed after delivery the one-way system or the bi-directional two-way system. I was asking the dealer that I ordered my Ford one-way system from the other day about mounting the antenna to the windshield and he told me that the one-way systems do not have an additional antenna that needs to be mounted. That this system uses the tire pressure monitoring frequence and system to operate this Ford one-way remote start system, does anyone know if this is a correct statement or not.

Thanks,

gmarshall

According to the manual for both one-way and bi-directional, they both have an antenna that needs to be mounted which is included in the kit. This is for the 2013 Fusion.

See the attached document.

Regarding keystart Fusion, that statement is incorrect. OE remote start kits for Edge, Explorer, F-150, and 13 Taurus add remote start by replacing the keys and installing an antenna to the TPMS module (with the exception of Explorer and Taurus which only require keys and programming) and enabling remote start with IDS. All 2013 Fusion remote start systems with keystart require an antenna added to the windshield. Bi directional can be hidden completely under the plastic shroud around the mirror, while standard systems can be placed under the shroud provided small notches are cut in the sides of the shroud. I do this for a living, the parts guy you talked to doesn't.

Mine is a bi-directional and the antenna is installed on the windshield. Ford did the install.

Yes I have all the options so I have the "big black box" - the remote antenna is located just to the right of the box and at the top of the windshield and my EZPass is located to the right of the antenna. As you can see by my avatar, I also have an elephant in my back seat.

Ok so a couple months later my remote start is finally programmed the way it should be....

I now have these options in the message center settings under settings--->vehicle--->remote start:

System - on or off (checkbox)

Duration - 5, 10 or 15 minutes

Silent Mode - on or off (checkbox) (I believe it is supposed to honk when this feature is off but it does not ????)

Under Climate Control:

Rear Defrost - on or off

Front Defrost - on or off

Heater-A/C- auto, last setting

I have the Fusion SE with 1.6 Eco and the standard radio. No MFT.

i've read all of the comments and im guessing the remote start is the one that actually goes with the fusion. however i bought a viper 5904 remote start/alarm for my 2013 fusion se 1.6ecoboost and now the install shop is saying i need a bypass module for the remote start or i will need to leave a key in a box for it to work. is this true? do i have to wait for this bypass module. if so, this sucks. lol

my husband told me to wait but i had to jump on the price $300 for a reg priced $700 viper system. i've had viper systems before but this is my first go round with a remote start. this system is supposed to do so much more than start your car..........im excited if i could just get it installed..................PLEASE HELP. thanks in advance.

If it's worth 700 and you already bought it for 300, my best advice is to sell it and go to your dealer and get the RIGHT kit. Don't let an "install shop" butcher up your brand new car. Especially a new car that already comes with remote start (essentially) and only needs a plug-in kit that just needs to then be programmed. With the proper kit, there are no bypass boxes, no wiring cutting, splicing, no taping $150 keys to the column (or putting them in bypass boxes). Your dealer has the best and really only option for remote start on a 13 Fusion, I don't care what the laughtermarket people say, their shit don't work on a 2013.
