Using and powering an iPad

When I use my 2013 Ford Fusions USB ports with my iPad, I can hear the audio and use many of the controls through the car. Pandora show on my car screen with the song playing (w controls). I can use the WAZE GPS with both audios playing over the car speakers, GREAT, BUT the iPad shows as "not charging", so this would not last too long before loosing power. I was hoping to maybe find a split cable that I could plug data into the car USB and power into a better USB adapter. Anyone know of such a thing or have any other solutions?

It is slightly kludgy, but you could try using a USB "y-cable" that inserts extra power.

See this amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Apricorn-Power-Adapter-Cable-AUSB-Y/dp/B000JIOHDE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

It lets you plug one end into the Fusion, and the other into a 12V USB adapter to add power.

All that considered, the .5a will likely limit your iPad's battery drain to almost zero, but it will not charge the iPad if you're using it. If the iPad is sleeping it will charge, but take hours upon hours to charge.
