akirby
Is the engine on? Need more info - what are you trying to do?
sah
Is the engine on? Need more info - what are you trying to do? Thank you for your reply. The chime happens after we park the car and open the doors while we are still in the car. It also happens when we open the doors to get into the car. I'm really not sure what the chime is trying to tell us - other then a door is open. and if that's the case then it serves no purpose. Being that the car is parked, it should not matter if the door(s) are open.
FusionDiffusion
Maybe that you should take the key out and/or turn off the headlights?
akirby
Yes - it's telling you that either your lights are on or you left the key in the ignition.
sah
Maybe that you should take the key out and/or turn off the headlights? I will re=check that for when we get out of the car - but, that should not be happening when opening the doors to get into the car. I would still like to disable it.
sah
Yes - it's telling you that either your lights are on or you left the key in the ignition. OK - as stated above I will re-check that - but, what abount getting in? How to disable?
akirby
Do you have intelligent access? If so then you're probably moving the fob away from the car so it doesn't sense the fob for a second or two. Mine does it when I have the fob in my left pocket and face the front of the car when opening the door. It doesn't hurt anything - just keep the fob closer to the door. If you have a regular key then you either left the key in the ignition or you left the lights on. It will turn off the lights after 10 minutes to save the battery but when you open the door the chime will start again. In that case remove the key before getting out or turn the headlamps off or leave them in auto position.
sah
OK - My mistake, the chime does not come on when we open the doors to get in. The chime does come on though, as soon as the ingnition key is put into the ingnition while the door is still open (as though we are not aware that we just put the key into the ingnition) this in it's self is very annoying - we want to keep the doors open to let the heat escape and before starting the car. We also live on a very quite block and have the chime late at night can be disturbing to otheres. Is there no way to disable the chime completely?

I have a remote that has the ingnition flip-out type key.
akirby
The chime does come on though, as soon as the ingnition key is put into the ingnition while the door is still open (as though we are not aware that we just put the key into the ingnition) Aha - it's telling you that you might have left the keys in the ignition by mistake. It doesn't know the difference between getting into the car and getting out of the car. All it knows is the door is open and the key is still in the ignition. Is there no way to disable the chime completely? Absolutely. Don't put the key into the ignition until you close the door. Problem solved.

Is'nt just having the dashlights come on good enough?

RybSE
2014 SE. The chime sounds 3 times to alert you to fasten your seat belt. If the seat belt is fastened then no chime. If you fasten it while it's chiming it will stop after 1 or 2 depending when the seat belt latches. (This is with the key is in the ignition) Edited July 3, 2014 by RybSE
akirby
At this point I have no idea other than the reasons we've already given you. It will also chime if you start the car without the seatbelt fastened.
RybSE
Also, if I remember correctly, if the car is running and the door is open you can press "okay" on the steering wheel's left control pad to acknowledge you know the door is open and then it stops.

(This is with the key is in the ignition OK, so if I understand this corectley - if the seatbelts are not fasten - then the chime will come on just by having the key in the ingnition - even if the car is not started or running - is this correct?

OK, but what about just having the key in the ingnition - before the car is actually started?
FusionDiffusion
If the key is in the ignition in the OFF position and all the doors are completely closed there should be no chime. You must have been driving a really old car before or just came to this country because cars have had these same warning chimes for at least two decades.
sah
If the key is in the ignition in the OFF position and all the doors are completely closed there should be no chime. Yes, I realize that, what we got use to doing is when we first get into the car and start it, we leave the doors open to release the heat that has built up inside the car. Thern we put on the air conditioner before we close the doors. You must have been driving a really old car before or just came to this country because cars have had these same warning chimes for at least two decades. Actually, we had a 2010 Nissan Altima - with the push button start/stop and before that a 2009 Nissan Sentra with an ignition key - in both cases we were able to disable the door chimes as well as the horn from blowing when the security feature was activated. The Altima had numerious electrical failures so we traded it in for the Fusion - the Sentra was a very rough ride.
RybSE
I would have to go try it again, but as I posted earlier, I'm pretty sure if the car is running and the door is open the center screen will show you have an open door. if you press the OK button on the left side of the steering wheel the chime will turn off.
akirby
But according to sah the engine isn't running - the key is just in the ignition.
RybSE
But according to sah the engine isn't running - the key is just in the ignition. I was responding to his last post which he states they got into the habit of getting into the car, starting the engine and leaving the doors open before turning on the A/C.

OK - yes, I think that did work, we will have to try it for a few days to be sure - cause it did work once or twice for sure, but in rushing, I'm not sure it worked after that.
Rob Curtin
Has anyone else noticed that sometimes the door open chime sounds tinny, as if it's coming from a simple speaker mounted around the steering wheel, and other times it sounds "warm" and is coming from the car stereo system? I haven't paid enough attention to figure out when it does which, but I was just totally curious if any of you mods or more experienced owners had any insight? It doesn't bother me either way, just was wondering. Thanks!
