well first at all I want to thanks the fast replying on my last topic, thanks really. Now I decided to change the transmission fluid by myself, don't trust either my mechanical and don't have the time for the dealer to do the work (here it takes all day long). I've been doing some research about the 6-speeds f21 transmission and have some doubts but its seem easy and I like this kind of work, the manual book says it take 7.4 quarts. My car is a fusion 2008 sel 3.0 fwd 6-speed, I read that there should be a drain plug, but, it only drains aprox. 3qt... so where's the other 4.2 qt? and how can I drain it? A friend gave me 8qt of Motorcraft Premium Automatic Transmission Fluid.

The balance of the fluid is held in the torque converter, lines, and cooler. It won't all come out unless hooked to a pumping unit for a flush. In my experience, flushing produces variable results. My solution has been just to change what fluid will drain on its own, and change again at some shorter interval.

Make sure the fluid you use is EXACTLY the type specified in your owner's manual. The Motorcraft brand is not enough to know. I'm not sure which version of Mercon ATF is specified for your '08, but it must have the designation "Mercon V," "Mercon LV," etc. Use of a fluid other than what's listed specifically for your transmission can cause trouble.

my onwer's manual says "6-speeds = Motorcraft Automatic Transmission Fluid code xt-8-qaw" I believe this is the one:

I read about doing the flush through the transmission cooler line, any advice/comment?

It's far easier to let the dealer do the flush - about $175 I think including the new fluid.

You can do it yourself by disconnecting the 2 lines going to the cooler and attaching rubber hoses going to clean 5 gallon buckets - one for old and one for new fluid. Just make sure the one with new fluid doesn't run dry. Once the intake hose is submerged in new fluid just start the car and let it run until new fluid comes out the discharge line. Then top off to the correct level. Or you can just pour new fluid in through the dipstick tube as it empties out of the cooler line.

Here is a video.
