Desired shift points (with videos)

Loaded 91 octane tune (Steeda CAI with insert) from James. Acceleration is much faster than stock and steeda tunes. However, I am not sure if the shift is still harsh. When shift was harsh using steeda and stock tunes, I felt like being pulled from behind then return to normal speed when changing gears. With the tune from James, I felt like being first pulled from behind slightly then pushed forward slightly when changing gears. How does it feel when shift is normal? I haven't driven many cars and there are no experienced drivers I can ask.


These two videos were taken after loading the tune from James. One is normal acceleration, and the other is WOT. RPM seems to be higher than stock settings when shifting. What's you guys opinion on the shift points?





My car is 2012 Fusion V6 3.0 FWD with about 40k miles.

They do seem a bit high, on your WOT run he changed the shift point to (what appears 7k) that's way to high. The cams fall on their face after redline. Your losing power after that. Plus your first shift didn't go to red line.

 

I'd contact James and tell him you would like to keep your factory shift points.

Several people said that shift RPMs for normal acceleration are a little too high, and shift is not crisp.

Do all Fusions shift at around 3000 RPM for city driving? I was told that other cars usually shift at 1500 to 2500 RPM. Not sure if this caused the problems of 6f35.

I have a 2010 3.0 V6 and mine seems to shift at too high an RPM with what I would call "moderate" acceleration. It will typically shift between 3000-3500 with moderate acceleration for the first couple of shifts.

 

The thing I have noticed is... if I reset the "keep alive memory" by disconnecting the battery, it seems to then shift at a lower RPM for a period of time. Probably until it learns to shift like crap again.

 

Isn't sceintific I know but it constantly bugs the crap out of me that it behaves this way. If I have to hit the pedal hard to pull out in traffic, it seems to give a lot of RPM and not a lot of movement. Hard to tell if that is a torque converter issue or programming with the torque converter or just a general lousey combination.

 

Should mention that I have 60K miles on mine. The trans was repaired at 11K, new clutches, valve body etc.

I wonder if higher shift RPMs indicate the transmission is less efficient at delivering power from the engine. What should I look at in the datalog to find out if there are potential transmission problems?

I asked James to modify the tune. Now the shift RPMs are lower and the car can run even smoother and faster. Maybe it's just that Ford's program for 6f35 sucks.

Thought I would mention I had my 60K scheduled maintenance and they did a transmission fluid service as part of that. Obviously a drain and refill since it listed only 6 quarts of fluid. So far, it seems to be shifting a little sooner than it had been. I don't think the KAM was reset though. Time will tell if it was truly helpful.

It seems that James didn't get the tune right. The shift was still harsh. I have returned the tune to stock, and will take the car to deal for a check up soon.

 

 

Some people said the dealer can disable adaptive shift. I think I would ask them to do that. I will also try Redline si 1 which works for some people.
