The 2017 Ford Fusion

I just wished these big car companies would go in their own direction and not be a cheap knock off of another car. Like the new Lexus's, they're different except for the really pronounced grilles I love the edges and curves on them and you don't see the same on other cars. Ford is trying to be something it's not. Why can't their engineer's just be unique and do something different. It's like you're driving something that is trying to look like a car 5x the price. Reminds me of those people who buy clothing knock off's when its not the real thing..lol

What is the Fusion a "cheap knock off" of exactly?

Not seeing the Focus connection.

I just think these look too much alike.

Same for the bar grille style:

I don't understand why Ford wants their various car lines to look so much alike. They also put the Edge grille on the Escape for 2017.

Just sayin . . .

The grille look like Aston Martin, it just looks like other cars, no wow factor when I first saw it back in 2012. If anything, Lexus is ahead of the game with their designs no other car looks like their new models. The only thing going for them is that they're not the ugly cars they used to be except for the CMax, now that's an ugly car, like the Kia Rondo.

Well, that's your opinion, to which you're entitled. Obviously many other people disagree since they sold 300,000 Fusions in 2015. That Aston-Martin grille criticism is tired already.

I'm with Waldo. The new Lexus look is horrible, IMO. That grille, especially. Just because something is different doesn't mean it's a trendsetter. The Pontiac Aztek was "different" too.

I get that you don't like it but your opinion seems to be in the minority - most praised it as the best looking midsized sedan when it debuted. You can find a similarity to almost anything if you look hard enough.

As for that Lexus grille......

LOLOL, I did say the grille is ugly...my 2011 Fusion tail lights is ugly, what's up with the fish wire net in tail lights in a car ..lol..but I still bought it. It's been very good to me almost 5 years and no issues, no mechanic (knock on wood). I'll keep repeating it..lol..because you cannot say that about many cars especially a Ford.

I am satisfied with every new feature of the new 2017 Fusion Sport. but kinda would miss a regular shifter.

The wheels are nice, but I am kinda not getting the dark gun metal as a good color to go with certain paints.

It sure will look good on Magnetic / White / Silver / Black though. Would be nice if they smoked the rear chrome trim like the previous 11/12 Sport vs the other 2017 trims

I have an Escape now going back to an Fusion. I like the 2013-2016 Fusion grills better than the 2017 one however as well - Same goes for my '14 Escape front end. Do anyone know if the SE cloth seats have been upgraded for 2017 from the microfibre to something different - maybe similiar to the Escape's cloth? I prefer the Escape cloth seating over the current Fusion - just my preference. Thanks.

I’ve been driving my 2017 Fusion for 10 days, I just passed 700 miles and I can’t get over what a great car it is. I have driven the car on two trips of 220 miles, 275 miles and one week of daily commuting. I averaged 34 mpg’s and 36.8 mpg’s on the two trips. The first trip, on the day I took delivery, I used the cruise very little and fluctuated my speed on the freeway and as I traveled in Eastern Wisconsin on two lane roads and through small towns, I also took it up to and drove for a distance at 90 and 100 mph while on the open freeway. On my trip last weekend, I used the cruise set at 68 or 70 the majority of the way, under little traffic on a 4-lane highway and two lane back roads. I averaged 38.6 on the way up and 36.8 on the way home. In the past week of daily commuting I have averaged around 28 mpg’s.
I did a comprehensive walk around on the day I picked it up, but my vision may have been clouded by the excitement of getting the car. Today I washed the car (for the second time), in and out and could not find a single flaw on the inside, the interior fit and finish is perfect. I still haven’t got used to not having a gear shifter and I unconsciously reach for it when my arm is on the arm rest. I’m still working on a comfortable position for my left arm. My C-Max had a lot more headroom and it was easier to find a comfortable position on the window or door arm rest. I have not heard a single rattle, even while driving on a storm damaged wash board dirt road. All the exterior panels line up perfectly and I have not noticed any paint flaws, although I will have a closer look when I put a coat of wax on it. The tires came inflated 10-12 psi over the recommended level and I did notice a hard ride on the first day. I lowered them to 35 psi and the ride is now smooth and very quiet, one of the quietist cars I’ve owned. One little surprise was that the 16” spare tire has the same wheel design as the 17” luster nickel wheels, not a black steely. I also find that the spoke design makes it really easy to wash and dry the wheels. I have driven at various speeds through several “Your Speed Is” monitors and every time they have matched the analog speedometer and the digital display on the Info screen. I think this is the first Ford product I’ve owned that the speedo wasn’t two mph off.
SYNC 3 is a vast improvement over MFT, so much so, I feel a little sorry for those still using the Microsoft based system. It’s more responsive, faster, has a cleaner, less cluttered look and is far more user friendly. I am very pleased with the premium sound system and have no regrets not getting the Sony system. I love the way the DRL’s look and the LED headlights illuminate so much brighter and whiter than halogen lights. The car handles beautifully. It’s not a sport tuned suspension, but the steering is responsive and the car holds the road nicely on curves and tracks perfectly. The lane keeping system is pretty cool and on a straight road, I hardly know when it’s working, unless it’s when I take my eyes off the road and really veer off line. I had one scary moment was when I was on a fairly sharp curve, took it tight and the system very aggressively pulled me to the center and it took some effort to keep the car on the line I was committed to. I have the system off most of the time, but know it will be useful on long, boring freeway drives, especially at night when I can get distracted reaching for the french fry that fell between the console and seat, or when I’m getting a little tired. The stop start feature also took a little getting used to. At first I though it was starting a little hard, but as I get used to it, it’s barely noticeable and I have learned to take my foot off the brake a little to start the car, but keep it stopped, while the opposing traffic light changes from yellow to red and by the time I’ve cleared the intersection, the light is green and off I go. The 1.5L does lose a little power and hesitates just a little at take off or passing gear when the A/C is on. Other than the slight hesitation and a little less power, I have no regrets choosing the 1.5L over the 2.0L, plus, I like my mpg’s. The Gen 3 Fusion was already a very nice car, but the minor styling designs really make it a top notch mid size and hard to beat in that segment.
