Sync voice recognition

This post shows a typical interaction with Sync voice recognition - not for the impatient among us!

You can turn off the prompts so it only says what device you are using (IE USB, Blue tooth auto, Phone) when you press media button. After you turn off prompts it will not reiterate what you said. IE:

prompts on:

Press media

Sync: USB

You: Play artist Celine Dion

Sync: Playing Celine Dion

Music then plays

Prompts off:

Press media

Sync: USB

You: Play artist Celine Dion

Music then Plays

So what other devices are available? I assume line-in or similar. Is bluetooth available as a media device for anything other then your phone? I am wondering with my 501a package (on the way) if a portable GPS with A2DP blue tooth could connect? It would be nice to be able to integrate a portable GPS with sync for the maps.

The sysnc with the FFH has line in, USB, Bluetooth media stream (works like wireless speakers, but you can pause, play), Phone (bluetooth)

Not sure if a portable GPS would be able to connect and use the system as a speaker.

I doubt you would be able to control the GPS with sync. Unless some GPS maker worked with Microsoft to get it to work with sync.

I think some one posted on the sync forum that they saw an ad for a Garmin that might work with sysnc. but I cant find any info.

I paired my BlackBerry Pearl with a 2009 Fusion during a test drive and was able to stream from the BB media player to Sync. It was really cool! Put a big smile on my face. I may not even use Sync's USB port. More and more media devices are coming out with Bluetooth stereo support (eg iPhone V3, Samsung P2/P3, BlackBerry).

If your GPS is a source for BT audio, it will definitely connect to Sync.

Only thing that stinks about that is you cant say genre death metal or play Artist GWAR. It will only let you pause and play.

Double press the voice button and skip all the prompts.

Press voice twice

Say: USB

Press Voice twice

Say: Play artist Wilson Phillips

BAM! Just like that you are ready to hang yourself, in half the time.

That double press thing speeds it up immensely.

The audio quality can't be anywhere close to a usb connection either.

Actually its really good. Bluetooth streaming is digital not analog it has a theoretical bitrate of 721kbps but ad2p limits it to 320 kbps for mono and to 512 kbps for stereo. It depends on the stereo and phone/media player which bit rate it uses. Most mp3's are 256k or lower. In my FFH & iphone 3.0 its sounds just as good as wired

yes you can use bluetooth. Ilike to listen to the music on my blackberry using bluetooth option which will also allow a call to come through then go back to the music.

  • 1 month later...

Let's say you are listening to a song via the USB (playing from your iPod). The song is not finished, but you want to listen to a different song.

According to the (speedier) instructions below, you must always start the sequence by saying "USB" and then follow on the track, artist, or album.

Is there any way for Sync to automatically know that you want to remain in the "USB" input? For example, if I'm listening to Brown Eyed Girl, is there any way for me to hit the voice button and say "Play track Tom Sawyer" (and then hear the famous Rush intro)?

Thanks,

Will

Just like you said it. Voice button twice "Play track Tom Sawyer" and away it goes. The USB command is only to get it to the disc drive the first time.

I'm pretty sure that's only for non-Nav systems though. The 2010 Nav Job2 software will have the capability though.

I tried on mine (with the Nav) and it always goes back to the first menu. I am getting tired of having to say 'USB' every time!

As others have figured out, this does not seem to work with the Nav systems (as I have).

I tried this today (multiple variations, settings, etc.) and I don't think the double press works at all.

Any ideas how to get the double-press working on the 2010 Nav system units?

Nope. Sorry. I'm surprised its different. And that sucks. I hate listening to the prompts. I just want to talk and have it go as fast as possible.
