Tosprops
My 2010 2.5L Fusion SE went into limp mode last week 4000 miles out of warranty. I replaced the throttle body and for two days the car ran like a champ. Gas MPH was better and the performance was good. Last night on the way home in rush hour traffic on the freeway, it shook, rattled, and rolled to a dead stop while displaying the wrench light. I cut the car off, restarted and was able to move to the shoulder but barely. I turned off the car again and restarted. It could not accelerate. The engine would rev up and a couple of times it revved up on its own. I had to have the car towed. When I got it home I thought that perhaps the new TB was defective so I put the old one back in. Started the car and all I get is limp mode though the wrench light didn't come on. It's a 3000 pound paper weight in my driveway right now. BTW - All of the vacuum hoses I had to remove to replace the TB are in place. Whether they are leaking, I don't know. Does anyone have an suggestions on what to check next? Thanks Edited August 21, 2013 by Tosprops
FusionDiffusion
What is the trouble code with the wrench light on?
Tosprops
I picked up an OBD2 today. I plugged it and got these codes: P0122 P0223 P02101

Tosprops
Do you think it's bad or that it needs to be reset? If resetting it requires driving, it won't happen. The car won't go 2 feet. Is the TPS built into the throttle body on a 2010? Edited August 21, 2013 by Tosprops
FusionDiffusion
Yes, the TPS sensors (there are two) are built into the throttle body. So either the new throttle body went bad or you have a problem with the wiring going to the throttle body.
Tosprops
Unfortunately, as much as I have loved it so far, the fusion is now on the list of one of those cars. It's gotta go. Edited August 26, 2013 by Tosprops
FusionDiffusion
So you're going to trade the car because of one small wiring problem that you haven't really tried that hard to fix? Dealer would love to have it because it would be a quick fix and easy sale. Was the replacement throttle body a brand new dealer part? Or are you trying used parts here?
Tosprops
This is also not a small problem because of the scale of it. This is a wide spread problem that has been going on with Fusions for years and yet Ford refuses to address it. I have owned my 2010 Fusion since December of 2009 yet I never received a single notice from Ford that this was an issue. I found out about it when my car died on the interstate the first time. Those to me are big problems that have really eroded my confidence on Ford as a company. All 3 cars I own are Fords. I traded two Fords for two of the Fords I own now. But, I'm rethinking that practice after this. TO me, Ford could have dealt with this problem a long, long time ago and yet they refuse to do so. That is hard for me to over look. akirby
The original TB problem is a known problem with the OEM parts. However, it's more likely that you did something wrong with the installation of the new one rather than getting a bad one out of the box, although that definitely IS a possibility but it's one that is easily remedied either way by getting a new one. There is a TSB on the throttle body problem. It's not a recall so there is no notification to be found. I do agree they should extend the warranty on them as they've done on other parts.
Smoky14
If the TB failed within that short a time I'd take it back.
Tosprops
I was just told by the shop that the problem is the transmission. I am going to have the car towed to the dealer for them to take a look. 40k miles on a 2010. What are the chances that if the problem is the transmission that it will be covered under warranty?

If it's the transmission with no signs of abuse - 100%.
richjmage
I have a 2010 Fusion SE and was told the throttle body needs to be replaced. had the same problem as the engine shook and wrench light lit as I tried to acclerate from a stop. was able to pull over and stop and start the engine. I drove home on the freeway over 100 miles ( as I had to since I was far from home) without it stalling but it happened again the next day. brought it in to have it checked and was told of the bad news. they told me it wasn't covered under the powertrain but I called Ford for a case number and will give it to the dealership and hopefully Ford will either cover the part or part of it.

It's never been part of the powertrain, but it won't hurt to ask.
