Daylight75
I'm livid L I V I D with our dealership. After 2 effing weeks they said the car would be ready at 5. At 5:15 the guy is like "they're working on the alignment". At 5:45 they tell my wife the wheels don't fit. WTF? Wouldn't they have known that before they tried aligning it? So now we're back to square one. They can't get the black wheels for the car. I'm beyond pissed- I don't understand. If there was a recall there should be a stack of these wheels. How about sporting us 2 of them so we can get our car back. We just paid $500 for a rental for 2 weeks and now we're back with another rental and the dealership is back to twiddling their thumbs. Any updates on this recall? Who pays for the wheels? Does Ford cover that or do you have to pay for the replacement wheels?
theoryflow
This has become completely ridiculous. It has been over 4 months since I complained that the clearcoat on all four wheels had peeled off (less than 1 year old). Still no answer as to when replacements are coming. 5 star service. Make the new customer call over and over and over again.

DioFord
Does anyone have an actual picture of the new 20 spoke? The pictures supplied by Ford don't really give you a good idea of what they look like.
theoryflow
Akirby, so far it's been the dealership as they've been the middleman during this ordeal. Most of my frustration isn't directed at them as they have been trying repeatedly to contact Ford Canada (or so they tell me) on my behalf. They're not getting any answers other than "we don't have a timeline to give you at this time". I'm now waiting on Ford Canada's response to a formal complaint I've sent them. One thing that annoyed me also -whether it matters or not - is that the dealership closed and then reopened my warranty claim a couple months ago because it had been open too long without getting resolved. To me that sounds like they care about their dealership service stats/metrics more than actually getting issues resolved.
akirby
Call another dealer and see if you get a different answer. That doesn't sound right.
Daylight75
Same here, Theoryflow. The Dealership is saying their hands are tied (we haven't had any flaking issues, my wife was in a minor accident and the rims on the passenger side were bent). They won't give us an ETA on replacements all they're saying is Ford won't allow them to sell the rims because of the flaking issue. Which sounds like bullshit to me. The very least they could do is put something on the car temporarily and then call is when the replacements come in to swap it out. But he's saying they can't do that either. I've tried reaching out to Ford and my wife has, too. She's been waiting for about a week to hear from some regional so and so. Meanwhile we're out $500 on a rental car, another $300 on a car payment for a car that's been sitting in their garage for the last 2 weeks and will be there for the forseeable future, and now we've got to get another rental car so that could be an additional $1k. Oh, plus the cost of the wheels (Ford won't replace them as part of the recall). I'm going to send Ford an invoice for the rental. The way I see it, they're keeping our car hostage over goddam wheels. There service is abominable.
akirby
Did you try contacting FordService? They might be able to help expedite the request and get some kind of definitive answer. I thought the replacements were already available and some had them installed already. Edit: I sent a PM to FordService - they should be here shortly. theoryflow
FOC Tier 1 Email - English Hello Mr. Xxxxxxxx, Thank you for contacting the Ford of Canada Customer Relationship Centre. My name is xxxxx and I will be happy to assist you, regarding your wheels. From our understanding because we don’t deal with parts, there was not enough in sufficient quantities to service all of the affected vehicles. We are told owners will be notified in two separate mailing and they are being prioritized by the vehicles age. I am sorry for the delay and we ask for your patience as we work closely with our vendor to get these rims to the dealer in a timely manner. Thank you for contacting Ford of Canada. fred223
Has anyone thought of enacting the lemon law pertaining to these rims? Although mine have been reoted to ford they are refusing to replace them. Not due to the fact that they agree the are damaged but that they said they want to come up with a solution to the problem first. I have called ford twice to get answers and to the dealer twice with no satisfaction. I lost

After all, our issue isn't about the paint flaking. It's about the fact that the wheels are bent and therefore we can't use the car until the replacement wheels come in. So we're stuck paying for the car, plus the rental.
Daylight75
So wait, for those that had replacement wheels- do you have to pay for them or does Ford just swap them out?
fred223
I have had this problem for months now with no satisfaction from ford or from the ford dealer. I have called both twice and till nothing. I am tinking about enacting the lemon law in regards to hs. Any thoughtsfrom others about this issue?
akirby
I doubt it would qualify for lemon law, but if that's what you want to do it won't hurt I guess.
drolds1
I doubt it would qualify for lemon law, but if that's what you want to do it won't hurt I guess. Highly unlikely. Iowa lemon law: To qualify under the Lemon Law, the problem or defect has to render the vehicle unfit, unreliable, or unsafe for ordinary use or significantly diminish the value of the vehicle, and has to have occurred during the Lemon Law rights period. I don't think peeling paint on wheels is going to meet that requirement, especially when Ford has a program in place to replace the wheels.

momback
I stopped at my Ford dealer to see the wheels that are offered. They didn't have any of the five spoke wheels, but they had a Fusion on the lot that had the new twenty spoke wheels. DID NOT like them. Looked pretty much like the originals but much plainer. No pop. Looked like they took the originals, puffed them up a little thicker and spray painted them with black Rustoleum gloss. Certainly not an equal quality replacement.
theoryflow
Getting close to 5 months now since I opened up a warranty claim. I still don't have an ETA.

Really not happy about this. I figured that was the case. I have the Pearl White version and paid extra for the wheel package and this is their resolution? Plain black wheels are just going to look cheap the the machined wheels will look even worse. I wish I could just get cash instead of replacements. I can get a nice set of aftermarkets of my choice. darkone2014
I have had my 5 spoke replacements for about 4 months. 3 rd set of rims in a about 22 months of owning car. When you spend 30k on a car you don't expect BS like this to take place. I have had this car to the dealer for warranty issues about 16 times in those 22 months for misc. Issues. I will never buy another Ford.
ArcherNix
I also have the 18" black premium rims on my 2014 Fusion and the clear coat has been peeling for about a year now. I was so upset, as I purposely upgraded to those rims only to have them make my car look like crap after a year. By now, however, I hope you are all aware that ford has officially recalled these rims and lets you choose to either have them replaced with the same rims that have a different clear coat that won't peel, or a totally new 5 spoke option--which looks sexy and is the option that I chose. If I could figure out how to post pics on the mobile site with my phone, I would. They look really good so far. I had the replaced right away--it was like a Christmas present from Ford. Don't get me started on some of the other problems I've had with this car though, which I do mostly love. But...on my 4th set of tires--2nd and 3rd set wore totally bare after 4,000 miles. Currently my driver seat motor is stripped. $1000 quote to fix and currently been waiting a week or more to get the parts and time scheduled at the dealer. So I can't even drive the car bx the seat is stuck all the way back and I can't reach the gas or brake pedals. Back brakes wore down super fast, didn't seem to make sense on a front wheel drive car...the list goes on. Thinking of trading the car in, but I dont know what to replace it with. It's a love/hate relationship. Edited January 3, 2016 by ArcherNix
ashleigh0912
I bought a used 2014 Fusion Titanium with the upgraded 20 spoke black rim package. They're peeling and I went into the dealership and have been told that the rims, which are the original Ford stock rims, don't match the rims that my car should have according to my VIN # and because of that they will only replace with a 20 spoke aluminum alloy silver rim. I'm so disappointed because the black rims are THE reason why I picked this car and don't want to replace them with regular silver rims. Do I have any other options? Will contacting ford directly help?
Tarpon65
The company I work for purchased me a 2014 Fusion that was off lease with around 10K miles. Reading this forum I saw this thread and the clear coat on my wheels was peeling as well. Stopped by Sarasota Ford on Friday, they popped in my VIN, and told me to let them know which replacement wheels I wanted them to order. They also are doing one other recall on the car when they are doing the wheels. I chose the 5 spoke as replacements and must say things could not have been easier.
