norcal81
I am completely baffled by the operation of my 14 Titanium's climate controls. In warm weather the auto setting works reasonably but in colder weather, it's very inconsistent. If the outside temperature is in the low 50s, and I have the systems set to 68-70 degrees it will blow warm air in for a limited period of time and all of a sudden it will send cool air into the cabin. Sometimes the AC will turn on. If I bump the temp setting up, warm air starts coming in again. I'm beginning to think that old school temp control knobs are much more effective. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but isn't auto is supposed to monitor things and set the cabin temp correctly? It doesn't seem to. The other thing I've noticed is that if I make a quick left turn I sometimes get a blast of cold air from the center vents. I can't figure this out for the life of me.
andyross
If it's sunny out, it may add some cooling to compensate. The auto-headlight usually doubles as a sun sensor. It may also depends on where the 2014's temp sensor is located and how much airflow is over it. On my 2011, it doesn't seem as accurate as on my 2000 Sable. On the sable, it was behind some slots on the control panel, and had a hose that connected to the ventilation system ahead of the fan to provide some suction. On the Fusion, it's to the left of the center console, right above my right knee. I'm not sure if there is something to pull air past it. As far as feeling cool air after a turn, that may be because the air in the car can actually move around as you turn, causing a breeze until it settles down.
akirby
Mine is also temperamental - much more so than any of my previous Fords and Lincolns with auto climate control. I think it's a flaw in the software - this system uses many more sensors. There may be updated software available - planning to check in a few months.
akirby
This is what mine does that i think proves it's misbehaving. Get the inside temp to equalize so there is no air blowing - or at least none from the center dash vents. Then turn the car off and back on immediately. Mine will start blowing cold air and keep blowing for at least 30-45 seconds - I didn't let it go any further. Something isn't right.

I'm in Northern California so it doesn't get that cold (sometimes in the mid-30s at night and high 40s to low 50s in the morning) but still, cool air blowing when the cabin temperature hasn't reached what it was set for? I'd be curious to hear from Fusion owners in the Northeast or Midwest, where cold is truly cold, about what their experience with the heat function has been.
Joseph Day
If the car is cold, it doesn't blow at all until it heats up (I'm sure this is normal). At times when I have the heat blasting and set it back to a normal temp it will blow some cold air occasionally (Trying to regulate temp?). I have noticed on a few occasions when it is slightly warmer and sunny, say in the mid 40's, that the a/c will come on from time to time. It's kind of weird, but at teams it seems like it works perfectly regulating your set temp, then other times it's kind of quirky.

This is the kind of concern you'll want to get in front of your dealerships; they'll be able to get it both documented and diagnosed to see if your vehicles are performing within spec. Come back and post your results after your visit; don't hesitate to let me know if you need any additional assistance. Crystal
