rgango9
Hey everyone, I have a 2014 Fusion Se with 109k and the 1.5 Ecoboost engine that has developed a strange noise. It stared out as a very light tick at idle after I had made a 2 hr trip on interstate. I checked the oil thinking maybe it could of been under/over filled, as I had just had it changed at the ford dealer, but the level was correct so since it was a very slight noise I decided to just drive the hour and half up to college. During the week at college I noticed that every time that the engine would warm up the tick would return, but only from idle to maybe 1500rpms, so I chose to make an appointment at the ford dealer back home. So on friday I started the trip back so that I could drop the car off and get my moms escape to use up at college while they looked at it. About 3/4 of the way back (a little over an hour) in stop and go traffic I noticed the noise now sounds almost like rodknock or a rattle around 3,000 rpm under light throttle, but went away once you got on the throttle hard or got off the throttle. Attached is a link to the video of the noise it was making, I was driving at around 25-30 mph in 3rd gear and got on/off the throttle a little to hopefully make the noise easier to hear. It a short video but its all I have on my phone of it. The car is at the dealership now, but so far they aren't sure whats wrong yet and said theyd call me on monday. The tech said he had never heard a 1.5 making that noise, so while I wait on him to figure out what it is I was wondering of anyone has experienced such a problem or has any guesses as to what it could be. Thanks
rgango9
Well the dealer suspects that it is either a broken wrist pin or a bad rod bearing. Not sure how that can happen at 109k but now I am faced with a minimum repair bill of 3,000, or the dealer will offer me 3,000 on trade it. Either way I go with it is going to make it have the highest cost of ownership/depreciation of any vehicle ive owned... I loved fords but I don't think that my next vehicle is going to be a ford...
