2015 Fusion excessive rear brake wear

Recommended Posts

I just took my 2015 Fusion in to have the tires rotated ( at 50k) and they called me to come out and see the brake pads. The front pads look great and have many miles left on them but the rear pads are very thin. I thought the rear brakes should out live the front and wonder if the electric parking brake could have an issue causing this excessive wear. Any thought on this?

HI Mike. It is difficult to diagnose the causes of brake wear over the Internet. Where are you having the brake work performed? A Ford Dealer or outside shop?

Keep in mind that rear brakes may/do wear much faster nowadays, due to stability control systems which use the brakes to maintain control and direction. That being said, whoever is doing the brake work should check the systems to make sure nothing is hanging up, sticking, or operating improperly.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

From what I have read on the web it is a known issue.....you are lucky you made it that long. My 2017 was just at the dealer with 23,000 and almost zero rear brakes. Service guy said good catch because if they wore to the pins you need new calipers also. So $500 later I have new pads lifetime warranty and new rotors, he said no way to shave them. He knows it can be an issue with these models but no recall or TSB as of yet. He then told me he has seen cars with over 100,000 and never had a brake job.....oh well....if they go now at least the pads are free.  Also my rotors were severely grooved which he thinks was the rust build up from sitting in between owners and it caused the damage.
