Got my car back. New rear end, new rear driveshaft, new torque converter. From the small amount of driving I did on the way home from the dealer, it appears the problem may be gone. I do not know though, so I will continue to look/listen for the rumble. Now I just need to get rid of the thing before it breaks again :banghead:

Hi! I have the same rumble noise on my sport 2010 AWD, last week my dealership change my rear driveshaft and did not solve the problem but the shop foreman told me that it was a new desing driveshaft (two pieces instead of three).... I'll take an appointement next month for another road test.

That didn't help me one bit. I can't even believe Ford is approving that since they know that's not the issue.

yup. i got a new Torque converter, rear driveshaft, and rear diff. the problem went away for maybe 200 miles and now its back.

I know all this, I had followed the treads but the more we complain more they spend money on that, and maydbe faster they gonna find a solution.... I said MAYBE!!

I was promised a resolution almost a year ago. I really believed them. Conversations with my SM indicate that I can probably forget about them fixing it but that he was going to talk to the FSE again. I haven't heard anything. Thanks for reminding me though. I'm going to going to call him next week and complain again. I am really disappointed in Ford with this. They obviously don't care about finding a resolution for this issue. BTW. I'm apparently the only one to complain to my dealer about it. A letter to Mulally might be in order at this point.

I should take mine back, but i have no motivation to do so. I got it fixed at 35k miles, but now i have 43k miles. wonder if the warranty would still cover any repairs they wanted to try, although this would be the third time a repair attempt was made; maybe it's time to start pushing for the lemon law. how does that work, since i have 43k miles on the car already?

You should still be covered under the 60K powertrain warranty. I don't know where you live in but I sincerely doubt you're covered under your state's lemon law at 43K miles..

took it back and they couldnt replicate the noise. so now i have to take it AGAIN monday and go for a ride. maybe i'll get free oil changes for life outta this or something at least :headspin:

I'd rather have it fixed than get free oil changes. It didn't really bother me at first but now it's starting to get on my nerves.

I just found a tsb that seems to describe our problems the only problem is that for me i'm not in the built date mention there... don't know for you but i'll bring it on my appointment monday and ask them what they think about this.

Thanks for posting that, but it doesn't seem the describe the problem at all. It's talking about tight turns or a thud/clump on tip-in or acceleration under load. My car produces the rumble only on straight ahead acceleration and precisely 1500rpm/38mph and/or 1500rpm/50mph. My car's not in that build range either.

I know that it don't do on tight turns or clump but we can consider that it does on light acceleration but anyway, we can supose that it's the PTU because of what I know no one here had this part change... And I had my differencial change today and it does the sound two times on my way home and i'm not suprise!

I took mine back in the other day and they couldnt find anything, so I did a ride along then with the tech. of course, i couldnt replicate the noise, no matter how hard i tried. However, it was the same guy that initially fixed it, and he told me he did hear it originally. They then proceeded to tell me it was probably just a "normal" noise for an AWD vehicle to make. He was telling me about the rear clutch is probably what is causing the vibration for that slight instant there is tension and it is causing the vibration in the driveshaft. So, I said , "50k miles down the road, when my rear end drops out, what do i do?" and I was assured that this would not have that adverse of effects on the vehicle. Something tells me if I go back in 50k miles, that they wont be saying the same thing. Maybe I should go to another dealer and see what they say, or hope for a TSB before my warranty runs out.

I seem to have a similar "rumbling" feeling mostly through the steering most noticeable at about 80 km/hr. If I shift manually back into 5th the rumble diminishes. Sure would like to know what going on. Has anyone heard of what is causing this issue? Any one had luck with a fix yet?

Actually, I don't feel the rumble through the steering wheel. It's more of a "seat-of- the pants" feel. It's a driveline issue, which doesn't normally manifest itself in the steering wheel. It can also be heard. The momentary rumble occurs at 40mph & exactly 1500RPM, although it has also occurred at 50mph but still 1500RPM. Is yours just momentary or continuous? If it's continuous, then you have a different issue. I ask because in my case it doesn't last long enough to have time to shift back into 5th, if it's even in 5th yet at that speed/rpm.

I do feel it though out the vehicle... difficult to isolate. Its continuous vs momentary but does go away just before or after 90 km/hr. These issues can drive a person crazy.
