burgboy
Am I paranoid? I traded in a 99 Taurus and the wife still has a 98 Taurus. Both of them are V6. When cruising on the highway the Taurus tach hangs around 1500 to 1700 (overdrive. On my new 2010 Fusion SE 3.0 V6, at highwaway speed, the tach hangs around 2200 and higher. Is this overdrive? Seems a little high. I'm just about ready to "test drive" another Fusion off the lot just to see.T hanks for your feedback!
FtLewis2002
It ALL depends on what "Highway Speed" is.
xmech2k
I'm sure they have different engines, transmissions, weight, etc. So there is a different powerband for the engine, so of course the gearing will be different, too. I would think it would be unusual if 2 totally different cars had the same RPM in those circumstances.

Emissions control also plays a part in higher RPM today vs. 10 years ago.

Can you tell I have not bought a "new" car in forever? I do love the car and it is a true treat to drive.
