Ambient Lighting Kit for 2010 Fusion

I had a 2010 Mustang that ended up being a lemon so I went back to get a second Fusion. I had the 2007 with absolutely no problems and it was my intial impulse to get another one instead of the Mustang but I had a good salesman:) I loved the ambient lighting and how you could change the colors of the instruments and interior to match. I requested that I get the same setup for my 2010 Fusion and payed $425 for labor and the kit.

They told me yesterday that it would only take 2 to 3 hours and it would be done. Wrong Answer!! Not only did they call me after lunch to say it wasn't done, they asked me where I wanted the 2 EXTRA lights to be placed. After further probing the light kit was some aftermarket piece of junk with a Ford Part#. It doesn't change the lights on the dash, they added a button right by the shifter and there are only 4 lights total to their kit. Now I have a hole in my cup holder with nothing in it, lights under the dash and on the lower back/side of the center console and they are stuck on green!!!!!!! Went this morning to have them fix it and they said the guy isn't there and to come back Monday. The sales rep for acessories apologized for the misinformation about the kit because she didn't know and the service dept is giving me the shoulder shrug.

Moral to the story is get aftermarket lights from a private vendor and install them yourself or have someone other than the dealership install them. :banghead:

Sorry, but I don't see where you were deceived. The official Ford Accessories online catalog as well as the Fusion website say the following:

Interior lighting sets an engaging glow by adding flair, individuality and atmosphere to your vehicle, whenever the mood strikes. Kit includes one LED-generated light in the cupholder area and a light bar in the front foot wells. Set your mood by scrolling through your choice of seven color options to create the perfect setting and ambiance for any driving occasion.

Nowhere does it say anything about changing the color of the instrument lighting. Did you research this before giving the go-ahead to the dealer? Were you told anything different by a dealer representative? Shoddy installation is another story and I'm sure your dealer will remedy that

For the record, the factory ambient lighting doesn't change the color of the instrumentation either. From the Ford Fusion website:

Pick one of the seven colors in the Ambient Lighting feature to express your mood. You can add colorful accents in the front and rear footwells, front center console bin, and front two cupholders. Ambient Lighting is standard in Fusion SEL and available in the Sport model with the Comfort Package. It’s also standard in the Fusion Hybrid.

The ability to change the instrumentation colors is only available in the Mustang. All of this information was readily available to you online. I don't know what you're angry about.

I was shown the catalog and it did not describe the light kit. The sales associate did say to me with the New Cars Sales Manager present that it was the same as the Mustang. This dealership had never installed one in a Fusion until mine. There were no Fusions on the lot with this kit. When you have bought 4 brand new Fords from a dealership, you trust that the information given is correct. If you are in a store and you are trying to decide wich pair of running shoes is better, the majority of people do not stop and get online before purchasing them. You trust that the sales associate is knowledgeable and proficient at his or her job and that you are being helped with confidence (this is how it goes normally unless you shop at a flea market or swap meet). The issue is that they lost my confidence in their ability to provide good customer service and keep messing up.

I hear what you're saying, and that's fine, but look at the results. What catalog were you shown that didn't describe the kit? Everything else I've linked to seems to describe the kit. Perhaps, a lesson learned for you. I've bought 9 brand new from my F-L-M dealership and I still research everything. I don't care what information they give me. My experience is that I often know more about their product than they do. I guess you're more trusting than I.

Your example of the running shoes is a specious example. Currently, over 90% of people contemplating a car purchase start their research on line. Buying a pair of running shoes hardly compares with a major purchase, such as an automobile. While you already had the car, you were still contemplating a $425 purchase based on no hard information. As I said earlier; lesson learned.

Now, if the sales manager misrepresented the kit's features and is willing to admit it, then some sort concession, financial or otherwise should be made in your favor.
