con_fusion
Just curious if anyone has a routine for cleaning the engine area. I've never washed an engine with a cleaning product and hose. Not sure if I want to do that. In the past I've had some of my cars detailed where they steam cleaned the engine compartment. Anyone just clean off the obvious things like valve covers, air box etc. and what do you use? With my recent service stints I've been checking the engine area out more. Thanks

Thanks I've had good luck with the Orange degreasers and low water pressure on a warm (not hot) engine. You don't want to use high pressure and be careful around the power distribution box. Make sure you run the engine for awhile after washing to dry it thoroughly.
Oldguy16
Whatever you do, do not run the engine after cleaning it. Let all excess water evaporate, I would suggest overnight, providing that it's warm so the water doesn't freeze. You don't want any water to get in the engine or electrical parts, letting the car sit, in the sun preferably would be the best.
akirby
It's better to blow the engine dry with a blower or compressed air but if you can't do that then it's better to run it to help it dry. You don't want it to sit wet overnight. Just make sure no water got into the intake before starting it.
