asperber
I just bought a 2013 Fusion Titanium AWD, 2.0 L Eco boost. Love the car, but i have been seeing really low mileage. I just crossed the 1000 mile mark and have yet to break 23mpg on the highway (actual mileage based on filling up the car). Is there a break in period? My friend has a 2013 Escape with the same engine, larger and heavier car, and is seeing around 30 highway mpg. Any words of advice? Thanks!

What speed are you driving and seeing 23 mpg? I got 30 on a 180 mile trip running 60-75 mph.

I got 30 on a 180 mile trip running 60-75 mph. I was doing about 65-70mph as well. I drove 200 miles, mainly all highway. Was your 30mpg on a new car or after the "break in"? I'm hoping it increases!

Did you check your tire pressure?
acdii
Give it a few thousand miles before averaging MPG, especially with AWD. There is a learning period along with everything melding. By the time you hit 3K on it you should start seeing your true average.

asperber
Ill give it some more time....hoping it goes up to where it should be! Goodburbon, you're only seeing 24 mpg avg?!
jinx8402
EPA average is 25MPG for Ti AWD, so 24 is not far off. I think the problem is, most people over estimate home much they are on the highway. What may seem like 80% highway driving is probably closer to 65% in actuality.

Well this was pretty much all highway, i filled up before leaving, and filled up once i got home, 190 miles on the highway later....
Goodburbon
I drive 550 miles one way to work. All but maybe 15 miles are highway. Once im at work i drive 40 miles to town every few days and a max of 4 miles in town. When i say my mileage is 90% highway i mean 90% highway. Not to mention that this car does better off the highway or on lower speed highways. My best tank so far has been 26mpg and that was driving around houston. No noticable difference between 10*f and 70*f either. If im going 75-78 on the highway my dash computer says 23 mpg. If i slow to 65-70 it says closer to 27. To see the epa rated 32mpg id have to drive 45-60 on the highway. Oh, and im using nothing but premium fuel. Also, i completely cleaned my exhaust tips before a trip home. 550 miles later they are completely covered in black soot.
acdii
Shoot I did better than that in a 2010 Flex Ecoboost V6. I saw 27 MPG in it at 70 MPH.
SlowAntelope
I'm at the 700 mile mark and seeing 22.3 mpg overall. Driving about 65% highway %35 city. This is less than the 1998 VW Passat I drove previously. Our 2011 Subuaru 2.5 liter Forrester turbo gets better gas mileage. I love the Fusion and I'm really hoping this gets better over time.
Goodburbon
I saw a sudden jump in economy at 5000 miles. I'm not sure if that was because they rolled out summer blend gasoline, or some liquid schwartz got put in the crankcase during the first oil change. Or maybe it IS actually breaking in. My last tank saw some very spirited driving, and was still over 26mpg.
truebluetitan
I'm at the 1,500 mile mark and am averaging 24 mpg. The first 2 tanks were horrible, but I am definitely seeing it creep up. Yesterday on the way to and from dinner with about 50% highway driving I was getting 29 mpg, but was making a concerted effort with a light foot and a max highway speed of 63 mph. I guess everything in life is about perspective... The Fusion is waaaaaay better than my old daily driver - lifted 2004 Grand Cherokee with mud terrain tires (~11mpg). The difference in fuel costs alone covers my car payment!
