MadMerc
Has anybody change the fluid in their rear diff? I was thinking of changing the fluid and using Royal Purple 75/90. It seems like it would be compatible and would help reduce drag.

Waldo
The rear diff in the Fusion is a wet clutch, so changing to a different fluid could affect the engagement of the clutches. Theoretically, if you're "reducing drag", then you're probably also reducing the friction in the clutches.

I wanted to switch over the Royal Purple, but they don't have a synthetic 80w/90 available over the counter.

MadMat
From what I could find about the ITCC (Intelligent Torque-Controlled Coupling) manufactured by JTEKT, part of the AWD Ford Fusion, the clutch discs are in a sealed unit and immersed in an ATF fluid or a new synthetic fluid in their design. There is no contact with the gear fluid. I replaced my differential fluid with Motul Gear 300 75w-90 which has by far the best low temperature properties and everything works fine.
