Hashley Wallace
I have a 2008 Fusion. Its a 4 cylinder. I do not know all of the specifications about the motor and such but I have a wet floor board. I have done some research and decided that it is most likely caused by a clogged ac drain line. From what I have read this is a relatively simple task to correct.. However, I have no idea where to start. I do not have a mechanics vocabulary but I can follow directions and pictures help alot. So... My question is can anyone help me locate where this is on my car? Please....
durasel
If its anything like a 00-07 Taurus (and 00-07 Taurus/Sable models have the same leak), there should be a tube coming out of the firewall. On the Taurus models, you have to push in the sponge gasket a little and then silicon that area around the drain tube.
FusionDiffusion
1. Open hood 2. Find the firewall behind the engine (the back wall of the engine bay) 3. Go on the passenger side and look down the firewall torwards the ground 4. Maybe about a foot up from the bottom there will be the drain sticking out of the firewall. 5. Get a wire or something semi-flexible and stick it up into the drain and wiggle it around. Hopefully water will come out. If no water comes out it's possible that the drain isn't clogged but the seal around it that prevents water from running back through the firewall is compromised. If you need help take pictures with a decent camera and we'll try to point it out for you.
Hashley Wallace
Ok. Thank you! Both descriptions are great. I think I will be able to locate it now. If not I will snap a few shots and post them. Thank you so much.
Hashley Wallace
I was able to locate the drain. It doesn't appear to be clogged. All that I had to put in there was a straw. It went in about 3-4 inches. There wasn't a plug in it though. Does that matter? And when I located it there was moisture around the opening. So that seems to me that it is not clogged. So my next question was what could it be now? Any further suggestions?
evh
Could the wetness be antifreeze? Blot up the water with a white paper towel/white Kleenex, etc. and see what color it is. If it is a bit goldish, you might have an antifreeze leak in the heater core.
Hashley Wallace
I do know that it isn't antifreeze. I've already checked. It is water.

durasel
Silicon around the drain tube as mentioned above?? Pull up the carpeting and see where the leak is coming from.
Hashley Wallace
Explain what you mean about silicon around the drain tube? Is there supposed to be silicon around the exterior of the plug? In the picture that I took you can see a small gap around the outside of the plug. Between the plug and, I guess, the firewall. So I should put silicon there? If that makes any sense. Lol.
FusionDiffusion
There aren't any pictures we can see. If they're on your FB then provide a link to the pictures please. Okay, about the silicone caulk. There is a hole stamped into the firewall sheet metal for the drain. When they install the dash with the HVAC box the drain part pokes through the hole in the firewall and the gasket around it is supposed to seal it off. So the caulk needs to go around the where the A/C drain sticks out of the firewall. For the pulling carpet, reach up under the dash and grab the top edge of the carpet in the passenger footwell and pull it down. If you see this behind the carpet then you know it's the A/C drain.
Hashley Wallace
Thank you so much. Your explanation and description was perfect. There is no silicon there and I can see the gap. Also, when I pull the carpet back that's pretty similar to what I'm seeing. So can I get silicon stuff at AutoZone? Anything I need to know about before tackling this job?
FusionDiffusion
Any hardware store ought to have caulk too. Clean the surface where you're going to caulk with some rubbing alcohol or something first so the caulk sticks. Otherwise just try to get an even bead and make it look as pretty as you can.
SinatraFusion
Were you successful fixing the problem/finishing the project? How hard was it? I'm having the same problem...
