Andrew Mentzer
my 2007 2.3 died at 130k, still owe a like 6 grand so just hoping to drop in a new engine drive another year and trade it in. BUT ive noticed that the 3.0 engine used is much cheaper than a 2.3 but is it still doable?
FusionDiffusion
Stick with the 4 cyl engine. The changes required for a V6 (different harness, PCM, mounts, etc) will quickly erode the price difference.
evh
I am curious, can you describe why your 2.3 died?
chilgers22
Just finished my swap also noticed the same price difference fusion diffusion do you why it's cheaper for the bigger engine?
FusionDiffusion
Not sure. I'm guessing it has to do with supply and demand. More people doing 2.3L replacements for some reason? Or perhaps just because the 3.0L V6 has been around for 15+ years and the pricing is more established. The 2.3L was only used from 2006-2009 in the Fusion.
FusionSVT
swap to a 2.5L 4 Cyl, they are more reliable and faster than the 2.3L
2011se25
Swapping to a 2.5 would be a lot more work since it wasn't an option in 2007, way too much custom stuff involved. I suspect since the OP owes 6 grand on a 6 year old car, they are probably more interested in the cheapest way to get the car back on the road. As far as reliability I haven't heard a lot of problems on the 2.3, and the 2.5 is pretty much a bored / stroked out 2.3.
MonoxideChild
No one has done the 2.5 swap yet. But we have been swapping the 2.5 v6 into the older mazdas that had the smaller 1.8 v6 in them, and everything bolts right in. All the differences are internal, But externally everything bolts right up. How do we know the same thing cant be said about the 2.5 Duratec? We know its just a stroked version of the 2.0/2.3 so it should bolt right in. Im just saying this because its always easiest to just say something wont work. But ive heard this many times, only to find out stuff can swapp really easily. Just no one with the knowledge has actually tried.
