ptron
My Sport is about a year old with 13,000 miles on it. A couple of weeks ago I noticed while driving on the highway the steering seemed to wobble when braking. Its really a slight wobble, but im not sure what is causing it. Called the dealer today and they said it might be the brakes rotors/pads and that it also might not be covered by warranty (which is really stupid). I have an appointment next week. Could it simply be something like unbalanced tires or alignment? Does anyone else here had a similar experience or know what exactly maybe causing it before I got to the dealer and get screwed. Thanks!! FusionDiffusion
If you only feel it during braking it's likely warped brake rotors like they said. There's a small chance it's something else like the suspension or tires.
Fusionpursuit
Most likely the rotors/pads as I have experienced in past
huhh
Do you feel any pulsation in your brake pedal?
BluHvn
My experience has been warped rotors. Ford is notorious for this, every Taurus I've ever owned had the problem. Edited August 29, 2013 by BluHvn
DeadButDreaming
if its only when you apply the brakes that you feel the movement .then it 100% you rotors you can either fix them or replace them.. the cause for that can be many but the main is that very hot rotors after driving then go to a wash ....or rarely at winter times,,or installing fake pads..thats it
Big Jim
Most likely it is warped brake rotors, and for that matter, most likely the fronts. If you feel it when applying the parking brake while driving, it is the rears or perhaps the fronts and the rears. When I was still in the shop, this was a warranty item unless the pads are worn out. That is as long as you were still within the 3/36 warranty. The factory mandated method to cure it was to machine the rotors s long as there was still enough material left. My wife's 2003 Escape had the front rotors turned once and then replaced under warranty. The next time they acted up I replaced them myself with non-factory rotors and pads. Now at 80,000 miles, the brakes have needed no further attention. If you at all handy, replacing pads and rotors is reasonably easy. I never had any rotor problems with my Sport. They were still in perfect condition when I replaced them with Mazda Speed 6 rotors, calipers, caliper brackets, and pads. The larger rotors are beefier and not likely to cause any problems. The big brakes are an absolutely wonderful modification.
ptron
Thanks for the info!! The wobble itself has stopped for the last couple of weeks. However, I have a service coming up in a week or so. I will have them checked out and If its under warranty ill let them fix it. If not ill just do it myself.

ptron
Got it checked out at the dealer. The rotors were warped. They fixed it and was under warranty. Yay!
