thefoeyouknow
It would be extremely useful to know what year car and what engine, what climate control options, etc. Right now, we'd need a crystal ball and a magic wand. He's a one post member, though, and it's been 6 months, so I wouldn't hold my breath.
Pb1959
Uncommanded Blend Door Actuation My 2012 SE 2.5 at 36k is in the shop now for the same problem. The blend door will cycle uncommanded to full hot with the temperature set in the full cold position. I am able to get the blend door to cycle back to cold by adjusting the temperature to full hot and then adjusting back to full cold one click at a time. The door will maintain position for about a minute and then cycle uncommanded back to full hot. The problem has been intermittent but seems to occur when the car has been left in the sun and the interior temps are high. Does not matter how the vent output is adjusted or if the A/C is engaged. I would be interested in any insight or thoughts. Has this happened to anyone else? Edited June 11, 2014 by Pb1959

Dan10
I have the exact same issues with my 2012 Fusion SE 4 cylinder. Anyone have a fix yet?
davidla3
Same problem with a 2011 Fusion. There's one control to set the temperature (no dual controls). A/C is working normally now that it's in the shop (of course). Before I took it to the shop I did notice that it would blow cold air for a few seconds after starting the car and then switch, on it's own, to full blast heat (not ambient temperature....but heater). After starting the car a few times it worked normally for a few days and then wouldn't cool again. When I drove it to the shop it started working fine and, so far, they can't get it to mess up. I didn't notice a solution in the old posts here. Is there a technical service bulletin on this issue? Is there something that controls the blend door that needs to be reprogrammed on the car?

Welcome to the forum, davidla3! I'm Crystal, the Ford Service rep here. Your dealership will be able to look up your VIN in our system to see if any TSBs would apply. How many miles are on your Fusion currently? Crystal

bikrcoy
I started having this same problem on my 2010 Fusion in early summer. During that time I just unplugged the connection to the Blend Door Actuator when the actuator was in the off position so that only cool vent air would blow. The AC would work fine since the Blend Door was always in the off position, so I know it is not an AC problem. Last week I started to troubleshoot this problem again since I will soon need warm vent air. I installed a new Blend Door Actuator, but the problem still exists whether the AC is on or off. The Actuator will work fine for a while but will eventually move all the way to the full heat position on its own. It does this intermittently but will return to normal after my car was been turned off for a while. I checked the connections the best I could, but the connections seem fine. At this point I believe the problem probably exists with the Electronic Manual Temperature Control (EMTC). I have not brought my Fusion to the dealer, but at this point I have no other option. But I may just put the Blend Door to the middle position and unplug it again. The air coming out of the vents will be moderately warm for the upcoming cooler weather, and I can just turn the system off on a warm day.

Since you seem to have the skills and initiative to dig into electrical issues, why don't you replace the EMTC yourself? You can get them on eBay for less than $50.
bikrcoy
Update: I did buy a used EMTC from E-Bay (about $50) and installed the part last week. So far everything is working great!

AbelNavyVet
I have the same exact issue, Hello y'all new to the forum... I have a 2012 Fusion SE 2.5 and this happens all the damn time.. I took it into a ford dealer and the tech guy told me he could not find anything wrong with the ac system, charged me 158.00 and sent me on my say. The AC will blow fine then all of a sudden HOT heater air. this will last for about 15 mins and then go back to AC cold air. So the issue is the blended door actuator???????
orionsax7
Thought I'd throw some information this way. I have worked on a couple Fusions that exhibited this same concern. Cycling the key would restore operation most of the time. As bikrcoy stated, the fix in those cases was replacing the a/c control head.
