Why all the Haters for 2013 Fusion?

I bought my 2013 Ford Fusion a couple weeks ago. I immediately went looking for Fusion Forums to share in the enjoyment of my new car. ... but then to be only met with skepticism and negativity. ( not just this site) ..

I understand that a big part of forums is to post about issues your having with your car and get real life feedback that is useful. .... But I also feel like forums are to enjoy your car together with other like people. ... But I have been on multiple Ford Fusion Forums (and the like) only to be met with a good deal of skepticism and negativity. Maybe it boils down to a newer body style that some of the older fusion owners arent' buying into yet, etc. but I would think we would have a place to come share in the excitement.

So , maybe i am the only one that noticed this. But if there are others out there that have experienced this, know that your not alone. ... Coming from a Honda Accord, where there were plenty of forums that enjoyed sharing positive experiences with their favorite car. ....

And I love this car so far. and plan on having it for years to come.

Thank you,

Ryan

Jealousy is the biggest reason. We all want the latest and greatest. But it comes to what you can afford and need.

I personally love the new look of the fusion. I was looking at the hybrid. But when it came down to math.. My $16,100 fusion was cheaper at a lower mpg rate than the new fusion. So I'm just an example of someone who buys based on value and not "luxury".

But not everyone is like me. Hence the jealousy.

Comes with all the new cars.. I got it once I started driving the new Titan around. "Jap crap". Yet fastest truck on the road (for its class). Once I started letting people actually drove it to see, they either purchased one or stopped bashing me.

Just gotta take it for what it is. Give it time..the rest will soon come around.

I haven't seen that so much. I got my 2013 SE a little over two weeks ago. I joined a few forums and have seen a lot of positive posts. I admit I haven't received as many answers as I'd like on an issue or two but otherwise no complaints. Congrats on the new car.

The main negativism I have seen is related to problems due to the learning curve of a new model. I think most people, including me, like the styling of the 2013 Fusion. I have also heard many people rave about the handling of the new Fusion. I wanted to wait for the New Fusion but my wife decided she wanted to buy one when the 2012 models came out. She did not want to wait. We got a very good deal on a 2011 and bought it. It is a great car too.

In some cases I think it's just "first model year bugs". Fuel economy and fit and finish seem to be particular issues with the '13 (replacing concerns about crappy 6F35 transmissions).

I have a 2011 and I'm not jealous because my car does everything I want (and fundamentally a car is an appliance for me). At first I was hesitant of the new exterior styling, but it has started to grow on me. At work they replaced the 2010 Fusion fleet vehicles with 2013 Fusions. Hearing some of my coworkers talk they aren't sold on the exterior styling (yet). Personally I always thought the '06-09 was sharp, and the '10-'12 even sharper. The '13 certainly does have aggressive styling. Much better than a bland Camry, and certainly not as bad as this, which is ugly as sin:

Welcome! As PublicHair pointed out, some of it has to do with jealousy. While I understand why it happens, it should be expected when a new generation model is introduced.

There's lots of forums out there, even ones specific to the 2nd generation Fusion! I'm just glad to see a lot of communities out there.

I like the 2013 look and the aston martin style front (I like aston martins and can never afford one) but one thing that sets me aside is I am proud to have one of the last Fusion V6. I feel the pride for whats under my hood. and I kinda see my 2011 as a totally different car vs the 2013. because its a totally different platform and I do feel the same way with the new Mazda 6, different and no more V6

My friends kept telling me why did I get a Ford and not an Acura, Lexus or even a VW. I told them for how this car looks, what I'm actually getting and how much I paid for it. I'd take my baby aston any day. I think the only car I would trade my fusion in for is maybe a 5 series BMW but then that's a whole different ball game :P

To be honest, it does have to do with some jealously, just a tid bit because I really wanted to wait for the 2013 to come out but I desperately needed a car so I went with the 2011 fully loaded. I've also rented the 2013 Fusion and it's quite different. Driving dynmatics, steering, seating position etc. I actually really like my 2011, except for the transmission, needs more power and I know that's what I'd expect for a V4. I've had it for 2 years now and not a problem, knock on wood as it's only 2 years old.

Today while driving on the highway I saw the 2013 in my review mirror behind me and something about it I really like the styling except for the back, I am seeing more on the road lately, mostly car rentals. But I've read somewhere that Ford has been selling the 13 like hot cakes, hence the additional assembly at the Detroit plant. And limited advertisements.

But what's a big turn off is that how quickly it became car rental fleets, and because of such the value of the car does down drastically. Anytime car rentals get it on it's fleet, it's a bad sign. I've rarely seen any Honda's at car rentals and none have the 2013 Accords either. When the the new Sonata came out it went to straight to car rental fleets as well.

As for driving a BMW, if you've got the money for expensive repairs, to each their own. They're sexy cars, but there's a price to pay for that too, kinda like a hooker.

I see many 2013 hybrids now as Taxi in the Bay Area as well as the 2010-2012 hybrids. they are popular for fleet cars.

Mustangs/Camaro are also another popular car in the rental fleets too, so those owners can feel a bit let down too.

But I have never seen a Fusion Sport in a fleet. but have seen the 13 titanium in the fleets. :) so I can probably say my car is not a fleet car

This is my first car and I love it. The 5 series can wait until I have a nice paying job and I have a family, heck I'm aiming for an M5. :P

Regarding the rentals, I just feel like you see it more because it looks good and people want to rent good looking car. I mean who would want to rent a Camry when they can rent a 4 door sedan that looks like an Aston.

The back of the car reminds of a maserati granturismo.

Whether or not people want to look good or not renting a car at the end of the day it's up to Ford, GM, Hyundai etc to decide if they want their cars in fleets. There are BMws, Mercedes, and other good looking cars besides domestics that people want to rent but rarely make it to fleets. It just doesn't look good that it goes to fleet so quickly and so many. The value of the car goes down a lot when it does.

When I picked the 2011 Fusion, obviously I didn't pick it because of it's good looks because I had an issue with how it looks. I didn't like the buttons inside and the back of the car. Outdated. But I bought it because Ford gave me a good offer in financing without anything down and I did research before I bought it. My first choice was the Sonata at the time, but I am so thankful I didn't go with the Sonata.

And like you I love BMWs but until I make 70k or so a year, I ain't buying one.

Don't worry about the haters.

Its a really nice car!

Had the SE V6 2007 til a few days ago and now just got a 2011 SEL. I prefer the look of the 2011 but I can say I went to the dealer and the new one is sweet!

Enjoy!

Thanks Everyone for your replies.

After I posted this, I kind of got away from researching online and/or reading forums about my new car. I decided to just drive it and let the car do the talking. LOL!

and i thought this thread would get bashed a bit. but all of you were very kind and helpful; along with making some good points.

I am hoping as time goes on, this new body style will have more forum love; good conversations, welcoming in new fusion owners, and ofcourse some nice mods. :)

I am loving the car so far. starting to understand how to get the right kind of power out of my 1.6T. Not quite sure about the fuel economy yet. maybe just need to break in a little more. just passed 1k miles.

cheers :)

My sentiments exactly. Then again, the 2010-12 SPORTS are just so... damn sexy... IMO. B) Sorry guys but "It's a SPORT thing, you wouldn't understand..." (Yes, I just stole that from Jeep!) :hysterical:

Seriously though, I just had an opportunity to drive a 2013 Fusion SE with the 2.5L last week. It actually is smaller in person than you would think from the photos. Also I had difficultly getting the key into the ignition, couldn't line it up right from some reason and that drove me nuts. The trunk opening is just too small too, especially for a nice size trunk. I did think that 2.5L had decent power and the seats were quite comfortable. The dash layout was quite stylish IMO as well.

Yet overall, I didn't notice any real improvement in ride or handling over 2012. My impression wasn't necessarily good or bad, just prefer my 2012. :shift:

The only thing I am "jealous' about is the exterior design. Everything else I am not. I don't like the new seats, new steering wheel, the cheap looking plastics inside, the visibility, and driving position. Just the exterior design is better looking.

And the Nissan Juke is funny looking and very small inside. I was going to rent it one time, as soon as I put one leg inside, I said NO thanx.

Well, as I stated in my part 2 introduction. I went with what I could afford. That is why I have a 2012 SE. I could have went with a 2010 Sport that was LOADED. But I could not get the deal I got on mine.

I was asked about a 2013 or even the 2014. I could not find a 2013 in my price range and I do not buy new cars anymore.

Well it sounds like you guys are loving your cars either way. and thats really all that matters.

Speaking of 2012 Fusion Sport. i saw one of those a few after i bought mine, parked at a starbucks. Amazing looking car! i was really surpised. I couldn't believe it was the older body style. it almost looked like a whole new car design at first glance.

I have had my 2013 1.6l Eco for several months now. And i must say i have loved the experience. the seats are very comfortable, the interior dash setup is great with all the intuitive button placement and tech. there are a few little things that i don't like, but i think i'll save the true review for another thread. but to give you a hint, the small opening in the trunk is one of them. i can barely get my sons jogging stroller in there when its folded. (not cool for such a large trunk).

cheers. :)

Out driving today I looked to my right and ;ow and behold I saw the previous Fusion 2010 to 2012, didn't even notice it was a Fusion with all the modifications, looked like a Sport version but didn't see the Sport label. Had dimmed lights, window rain things whatever they're called, skirts and obviously something different with the exhaust it made noise as it drove away and a different spoiler. It looked good, different. And here I'm driving thinking my chrome stuff luxury MKZ alike version stands out..lol..

Are there any former Fusion Sport owners who have traded up to a 2013 with Ecoboost, and if so, how do you like the powertrain? I'm regretting buying my 2010 in the 2.5 liter configuration rather than the V6, as the four banger seems taxed holding highway speeds (75-80 MPH) especially on hilly Interstates and against headwinds. My driving situation has changed in that gas mileage is no longer the concern it was when I bought my car three years ago. However, my gut instinct tells me its counterproductive to trade "up" to an ecoboost 2.0 liter, despite the horsepower numbers. I'm from the generation that believes "there is no substitute for cubic inches" and I question the engine longevity of a small engine that is constantly running in a boosted condition. Other than the Mustang, it's becoming impossible to buy a new Ford product without an Ecoboost engine, and as much as I hate to defect to GM in order to get a midsize car with a V6, I may have to.

Ford's Ecoboosts have been in use for a long enough time across a diverse enough range of vehicles to make some observations. I would not doubt if the numbers showed that the Ecoboosts are just as reliable, or more reliable than the n/a engines. Turbos used to be a niche' powertrain choice but Ford has taken it mainstream. They have pretty much perfected the balance between everyday drivability and performance that did not exist the way it does today. Previous generations of turbocharged vehicles had turbos that functioned more like an on/off switch or were extremely rubber bandy in feel. People might remember the days when you would let a turbocharged vehicle idle for a while just to make sure the turbos had cooled enough before shutting the engine down.

I really think you should take a test drive of an Ecoboost and just see how amazing the drivability is. Turbocharged engines do not always run at maximum boost. Ford runs as much boost as is needed depending on driving conditions. If the 2.0 litre is tuned to make 14psi of boost, it will only run the full 14psi when your foot decides to slam the loud pedal into the floor. What the turbo really excels at is enhancing drivability. Merging onto the highway is as simple as it gets when you have 270lb-ft of torque available at 3300rpms.
