BlueOval2010
I've been having issues with my 2010 sport on damp mornings. The wrench light comes on at startup and the engine/trans bucks when I let off the gas. This is really noticeable at hwy speeds. I cannot set the cruise control, or select manual shift when this condition exists. The trans is upshifting through all 6 speeds. I get into my car after the air temp warms up and drys out and everything is fine. I've tried to take it to the Ford garage but the problem vanishes before I get there! Any ideas? Thanks for the help. - Jim
FusionDiffusion
Strange. Unfortunately I think the only way to get the code is to check while the light is on before you turn the car off. So if you can drive it straight to the dealer and have them check before turning it off, otherwise buy your own code reader and have it in the car so you can read the code when the problem occurs. The car has a transmission computer (TCM) separate from the engine computer (PCM), so you might have to tell your code reader to connect to the TCM when you use it.
BlueOval2010
Thanks FusionDiffusion.I have a code reader so I'm keeping it in the car. I think it can only read the engine codes though. The problem refuses to come back now that I'm waiting for it; maybe that's my cheap fix!
BlueOval2010
I finally trapped the code - P2135 throttle pedal position sensor. The Ford garage says $400 to install a new throttle body. AutoWorks has it for $215 factory direct, but recommends I try to clean the throttle body first to see if that corrects the problem. I have a can of throttle body cleaner but need some advice. I read that if I manually open the throttle I may need to reprogram it. Is this correct? The part looks easy to remove but just checking for gotchas. I also notice most people with throttle body issues throw codes P2111 and P2112. Am I seeing something different? Thanks for reading.
FusionDiffusion
You can try cleaning, but most of the time it doesn't work. If you want to clean it, this is what you do. You remove the air filter cover, loosen the hose clamp, and expose the throttle plate. You need a helper to hold the gas pedal to the floor with the key on to hold the throttle open (make sure they know to tell you if they have to take their foot off the gas so your fingers don't get pinched). Then you spray and wipe the throttle body until it's clean. So when the key is on, do not try to push the throttle. But if the key is removed you can safety push the throttle open by hand (just be very gentle with it) without any ill effects.
