Fixed dual climate random hot cold issue via BCM reset

Just fixed a couple month old problem on my 2011 SEL AWD V6. Had symptoms many others have reported, that is, random mixes of hot and cold coming out of vents despite climate control settings. First thought that perhaps blend door was broken or the blend door control module was bad, BUT, once I experienced a full range of combinations of hot and cold (switching sides, all hot, all cold etc.), I reasoned that the doors must still be moving, so it wasn't that a door was stuck, and it sounded more like a software glitch. Read the post below from JustAnswer and tried both fixes (fuse removal, BCM reset), it was the BCM reset that did the trick for me. I followed the instructions exactly, especially when I noticed the warning about removing the airbag fuse, I could just imagine fixing the HVAC problem and having one or more blown airbags to replace! Worked perfectly so far. Of course, lost all my audio settings/stations, but no big deal compared to being alternatively roasted and frozen. Love my Fusion esp. the AWD BUT Ford does seem to have more than their share of HVAC issues, of which this is just one. Passing this on in case it helps someone else with same issue...

proautotech (on justanswer.com ):

"Remove your hvac fuse 15 for 10 sec - reinstall fuse. Start engine "DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING FOR 3 MINUTES" Recalibration of module will accure when power is lost(fuse pulled, battery changed or died) If hvac reset did not work you have a trouble code - reset BCM There are two ways to reset your body control module Go to the GENERAL Remove BOTH battery cables (for the sake of CAUTION remove air bag fuse and wait 5 MINUTES) Hold both cables together for 1 minute - drains KAM (keep alive memory). Put everything back together Start the engine "DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING FOR 3 MINUTES" If you have no broken parts - system not default (normal operation)"
