Hi tweety. Most likely the interior door handle is broken or has become disconnected from the latch mechanism.

How to get it fixed? Several choices - If the vehicle is still within the 3 year/36,000 mile New Car Warranty, have it replaced by your Ford Dealer under warranty. Or if out of warranty, have them fix it and pay for it yourself.

Or, if you want to try and tackle the job yourself (it is not very difficult if you have any skill with basic garage tools): First ascertain which problem it is: If the physical handle itself is broken, you may be able to see the break by a simple visual inspection. If not, remove the door panel and find out which problem it is. Then either reconnect if disconnected or replace the door handle if broken. You would purchase the new door handle from your local Ford Dealers parts department or any online seller of Ford parts.

If you perform a search, there is at least one "How-to" on the forums and others available with a Google search detailing replacing the door handles.

Keep us updated and good luck.

I had the same thing happen to my last Fusion 2007 and now my 2011 is in Service today for the same problem. It is a known problem so I am not sure why Ford continues to make the handle with the same cheap part. I have never had this issue with any other car.
