akirby
Customer Satisfaction Program 13N03 Ford has extended the warranty on throttle bodies to 10 yrs. 150K miles from original purchase. If you have already paid for a Throttle body service or replacement you may be eligible for reimbursement and must submit receipts to a Ford dealer by July 31, 2014. If your vehicle is past 10 yrs or 150K miles the warranty is extended to January 31, 2015. The extended warranty transfers to all new owners. If you have concerns contact Ford at 866-436-7332. It doesn't say which vehicles are covered but this was sent to a 2010 Fusion owner.
indifferent
how do they send this bulletin out without models/vehicles that are affected is beyond me...
akirby
They sent it directly to the affected owners. There may be another bulletin somewhere that lists the vehicles covered, it just wasn't in this direct mailing.
jordacr
I received the same thing in the mail yesterday. I have a 2010 Mercury Milan. I have not had any issues with my throttle body yet, but have seen many reports from others. Glad to see Ford actually do something about an issue.

Brian1951
I got mine today. Sent out based on VIN numbers. Replaced mine in September, will be calling a dealer for reimbursement based on Customer Satisfaction program 13N03. Sure took them a long time to acknowledge that they had a serious problem.
AndyT
I'm curious to see what the PCM update they mention will do. They say it will improve performance should the TB fail. I don't really see how that would work...
Waldo
I'm curious to see what the PCM update they mention will do. They say it will improve performance should the TB fail. I don't really see how that would work... It's probably in the detection and reaction to failure. The PCM is programmed to go into limp mode when it sees certain parameters. But given the nature of the failure, the engineers may have learned that some parameters can still be controlled and a total limp mode isn't necessary.
AndyT
Yeah, that makes sense. Hopefully it'll give less dramatic response to the failure.
SGM Dean
What might occur (per letter): Your vehicle may develop contamination on the internal motor contacts of the Throttle Body, resulting in intermittent electrical connectivity. I purchased my 2010 Fusion on th4 Fourth of July 2009 (almost paid off). Early on a TSB issued for a re-flash of transmission to change when gears change. Otherwise it as not been back to dealer, having over 80,000 miles on odometer. Every oil change took place on schedule in my back yard using only Motorcraft parts. I would appreciate it if to be aware of a site that explains the 13N03 in greater detail. I'm guessing one or more internal motors are a part of the Throttle Body; and the electrical contacts on a motor were not properly insulated against (? fuel contamination ?). This is the best sedan I have ever owned. Dean
don24mac
Yep, I just received this letter for my 2011 2.5 Fusion SEL. Haven't had any problems with it so far, but put the letter in the glove box for future use if necessary. Currently it has about 40,000 mi. And, Dean, it's also the best sedan I've ever owned, also.
dabige
Yeah, that makes sense. Hopefully it'll give less dramatic response to the failure. Um, hopefully they've fixed the TB so this failure doesn't happen anymore. Period. Adjusting the limp mode is just a Band-Aid, IMO. akirby
Yes, there is a new part revision. Changing the software isn't a band-aid - it's just added safety for the future in addition to replacing the faulty part.
inFuzed11
This notice doesn't say that they will replace the part if it hasn't failed and they can't pick up signals when in for the flash that it will fail. This is probably just, as you said, to make it a less dramatic loss in driveability when the issue does occur. At that point, you would get the new revision part.
dabige
Yes, there is a new part revision. Changing the software isn't a band-aid - it's just added safety for the future in addition to replacing the faulty part. I'm well aware of the part revisions. Hopefully they got it right this time (fourth, fifth revision now?). Until they have successfully solved the cause of the malfunctioning TB, changing the response programming does nothing to correct the root problem, it only softens the blow.
akirby
They never said or implied that the programming would fix the problem.
Bob B.
Has anyone in Canada received the Ford Customer Satisfaction 13N03 document?
Robert Reed
I purchased the 2010 Ford Fusion through Military Sales in Naples, Italy. I am a civilian service employee currently stationed here. My ford started having problems a couple of months ago, i.e, stopping while driving. I took the car to a mechanic and he cleaned the Throttle Body and it has run well since now, but it started again today. My question is the Ford dealership's in Naples, Italy don't have parts for the American Ford Fusion (they have parts for the European Ford Fusion (completely different car). Will Ford send me the Throttle Body my mail so that I can have it replaced here in Naples? Help!

They'll need to know who you are, your VIN, etc to verify ownership and see if your vehicle applies. It is possible that your Fusion has the same symptoms but is not covered by this notice. Anyone here would be guessing.
indifferent
You could also get it through Amazon and pay for the shipping the part is drastically cheaper on Amazon so even with shipping you will probably come out ahead. It's like $185 Amercian I know ost dealerships in my area want $400 and up. http://www.amazon.com/Throttle-Body-3-5L-3-7L-BRAND/dp/B00AQZBZ6W/ref=au_pf_ss_1?ie=UTF8&Make=Ford|54&Model=Fusion|2816&Year=2011|2011&carId=001&n=15684181&s=automotive OEM PArt takes 5 min to install. * side note, are there any subtle differences with the Fusions over in Europe, My last call (Alero) was sold as a Opel in europe and it had very subtle differences. akirby
If you pay to have it replaced on your own you can file with Ford for reimbursement under the warranty program.

Yes but the differences are so subtle you may not notice them at all. Look closely........ European Fusion
