2012 Fusion: Front bumper split open w/ pic

Hello, introducing myself to the forum. Just bought a 2012 Fusion SEL 3 weeks ago. It's with great sadness that my wife walked outside and notice this giant gash in the lower section of the front bumper next below the fog light.

There are absolutely no scuff marks or scratches that would indicate this was done by a car improperly parallel parking or my wife hitting something.

Since, i'm new to Ford and Ford Fusions, is this a known design issue by Ford? We're in Ohio and there have been sub zero temperatures. I'm wondering if the cold caused the bumper to split open itself? I find it particularly interesting it's a lateral split along the curve of bumper where it folds inward. Thoughts or speculations?

Thanks!

Super cold weather and plastic/vinyl do not go well together.

Possibly you hit an ice chunk while driving to cause the damage?

Here in MI, pot holes would probably be the reason, but I understand you have much better roads in OH.

A few years ago I was pulling off the rear plastic trunk trim in my Taurus in cold weather and it cracked off in two pieces!!

We own 2 Sports and I already told my wife not to kick off the built up snow/ice as it could damage the lower Sport trim panels.

I feel your pain! Bought a 2012 Fusion on the 13th of Dec. On Jan. 1, we couldn't avoid a cat that ran in front of us and to our dismay it cracked the front faschia and the lower grill. Ugh! Decided not to get it fixed until spring on the advise of the body man.

I just posted one, same idea, but about the area behind the rear wheel wells. Is anyone else bothered by the fact that this expensive type of damage can happen so easily? Was wondering if any

body people out there have found a way to reinforce the plastic so it can withstand a slight bump in cold weather.
