rocketskates
Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum. I have a 2006 Fusion and I really want an iPod hookup. I don't get why they would create an AUX button but there's no hookup in the glovebox or other compartment. Just looking around to see if any of you on the forum have gotten iPod hookups in their 06 fusions. All help is appreciated! Thanks everyone! -Joe

akirby
You need an adapter - either a line-in adapter from PIE or a dedicated iPod adapter. Both plug into the factory harness at the back of the radio and you access it with the aux button. But they ain't cheap - at least $100.

This one looks like it should work and the price is pretty dang nice. http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/6803227/vpcsid/12919600/SFV/30046?utm_source=google&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=GoogleBaseFeed&gclid=CPmQjqzM7bwCFc5DMgodRWEAqw Then this one is a bit more expensive but maybe works better? I'm really not experienced with this. http://www.icarkits.com/cars/FORD_FUSION_2006/PODFD1GV6 Thanks for any help!
akirby
Crutchfield has some as well. Looks like PIE might not make theirs any more. As long as they say it's compatible and it's a reputable company it should be fine.
kobayashi maru
I never understood why simple aux modules cost so damn much. Well, I do understand they're catering to a niche market but still... for those prices I'd look at aftermarket decks which pretty much all have aux ports. I bought a double din recently that has all of the features I want including aux, usb, bluetooth phone/audio and more. Single DIN head units can be had pretty cheap, you just need to get the dash kit and cables. I'm not sure about the Fusion but my old Explorer also had an aux button with no jack. It was there because of the optional CD changer which I did not have. If all else fails, there's a device called a FM modulator which basically wires directly into the antenna port behind the head unit. It's like a wired FM transmitter so that you always get a good signal. They're not expensive but damn near impossible to find.
akirby
The newer radios (07+) have the line-in jack built in so no adapter is needed. The problem is they didn't provide a line input on the older head units. Aux is designed to talk to a CD changer so it's more than just an audio stream - the interface also handles control functions. That's why you need an adapter and it needs logic built into the adapter to mimic a cd changer. I really wish they'd just put line out and line in jacks on the factory head units.

A basic Pioneer/Clarion/Sony will run you $65, or $100 with bluetooth and handsfree calling. You will also need: - A dashkit ($10, or free from some retailers with deck purchase) - A wiring harness ($10, or free from some retailers with deck purchase) - Antenna adapter ($5) - Soldering iron or crimper with butt connectors. - 7mm socket and ratchet. - Electrical tape or heat shrink tube (not necessary, but a nice to have). The install will take you under 45 minutes, even if it's your first time. I did mine in 15 minutes from start to finish. As long as you aren't colour blind, there's almost no chance at messing up the wiring either! Edited April 2, 2014 by Botts
