Fair Price for extended warranty 6 year !00,00 mile on Fusion SE?

Hi everyone. I'm about to join the Ford Fusion club. :) I'm getting ready to purchase, but wanted to know what an average fair price is for an extended warranty (6year, 100,00 miles) for a Ford Fusion SE (MSRP around 27,650). I'm worried anything I negotiate on the price will be tacked back on when I add the extended warranty (since I won't know that number until I talk to the Finance person, if I understand that correctly).

You don't have to buy it from the dealer unless you want to finance it with the vehicle. You can actually buy it up until the 3/36 B2B warranty expires. Flood Ford is one of the lower priced dealers so use their price as your benchmark and at least get them to match it or come close.

I was dickering around with my dealer, he gave me all kinds of bs about not being able to buy esp and premium maint. outside. Floodford is good, I found adderson (Google it) cheaper. Dealer then called me he can match it, still didn't sign the papers.

While buying, get what you want with the right to cancel wit hound the fees. Then shop around from home.

We got ours for $1,450 - bumber to bumper 6 years/100,000 miles. I was very hesitant to purchase one, especially with all the hassels I had with our previous car/dealer/company.

I also thought of waiting, we were given the sales pitch about it coasting more to purchase at a later date.

I used the Flood Ford pricing to get my extended warranty discounted to match. That saved me hundreds of dollars. And if the dealer wasn't willing to match the price I would have just purchased from Flood.

I have had two Ford ESP plans in the past. Repairs were quick and painless with both. I loved that aspect of the plan - no calls halfway through the job to tell you about a related problem that will incrase the cost of the fix. The deductible is all you pay.

 

For my Lincoln LS the dealer mentioned the valve cover leaks but said they weren't bad enoug to repair. At about 60,100 they started leaking heavily and that dealer (Boucher Lincoln Mercury in West Allis, WI) refused to do anything because I was out of warrenty, and despite their recomnedations to wait.

 

For my 2003 Ford Expedition (which I still have an my daughter drives daily) there was an occasional oil smell but the dealer said they could not find it. A friend of mine is a mechanic so I had him start working on it after the 100K warranty expired. He immediately saw head gasket leaks on both sides just by crawling under the truck with a flashlight. That problem still exists.

 

So, my opinion is that Ford as a company lives up to the agreement, but dealerships I used, for whatever reason, seem to what to avoid certain warranty fixes (big job, dirty job, not profitable enough, etc.) The first dealer was happy to give me a $1,600 quote to fix the problem later so maybe that is the scheme. Lesson learned. If I find something that seems wrong / broken and Ford disagrees I will go to an independent dealer to see if they agree with Ford's assessment. If they don't I get an estimate and go back to ford to discuss arbitration. Seems extreme and hopefully won't happen, but I will be more diligent, prepared, and persistent in the future.

 

Even so, I don't view this as anything negative about FMC or their warranty plans. Dealerships are independent and try to maximize their revenue. So, if you are not happy one then try another, or go back armed with more information and an escalation plan.
